James Veary Obituary

James "Jim" Veary
The world lost an extraordinary man, a wonderful father, a great friend! James "Jim" Veary passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025, at 78, with his loving family at his side. Jim was born and raised in Bridgeport, CT. He is predeceased by his parents, James and Martha Veary and by his beloved wife of 56 years, Lynn (Johnson) Veary.
After serving honorably in the US Air Force, Jim joined the Bridgeport Fire Department in 1971, where he spent decades serving his community with unwavering courage and leadership, rising to the rank of Deputy Chief.
Upon retirement, Jim found joy in spending summers at his home on the St. Lawrence River in upstate New York, where he welcomed family and friends with open arms. He was the Life of the Party, the Master of Cocktails, the Leader of Fun and Laughter, the best River Lore Guide. His kindness and infectious smile brought joy and lasting memories to all those around him....and oh man, could he tell a great joke!
Jim spent his winter months chasing the sunshine in Lake Havasu City, AZ. There he pursued his passions for flying and writing. He proudly earned his pilot's license and became a published author. A storyteller at heart, he was an excellent writer who inspired and was inspired by his fellow Lake Havasu City Writers Group members.
Jim's family was the light of his life, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his children: Lorrissa Robertson of Vail, CO, Resa Veary Jones of Falmouth, ME and Michael Veary of Portland, OR, a brother Ronald Veary of Lake Havasu City, AZ, many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and countless friends. He was "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Caitlyn Rodak (Pookie), Clare Hughes (Bear), Hannah Veary (Bobana), CJ Jones (Sprite), Georgia Robertson (Doodle), Braeden Veary (Bam Bam), and Smith Jones (Sprout), as well as two cherished great-grandsons, Hudson (River) and Chesney James (Boots). Jim also leaves his loving partner and longtime friend, Migdalia Kollar and her family to cherish his memory. Jim's generosity, wisdom, and warm spirit left an unforgettable impact on everyone who knew him.
Please join us to honor Jim at a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service at 12:30 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. The Veary family will have a private ceremony on the St. Lawrence River to spread Jim's ashes later in the summer.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in Jim's memory be made to: Bridgeport Firefighters Sick and Death, P.O. Box 1398, Bridgeport, CT 06604.
Cards/condolences can be mailed to Resa Veary Jones 68 Middle Rd. Falmouth, Maine 04105.
