I don't know what Jeff was like in his other roles, but as an uncle, I think I can say on behalf of all of my brothers that he was outstanding. When we were kids, he'd show up for Thanksgiving dinner in a new and invariably cool sports car every year, or so it seemed, and let us climb inside to check out the interior details. He'd bring a huge tray of shrimp for everyone to enjoy during the long, pre-turkey afternoon of snacking that followed the Prep football game. In more recent decades, he'd open my ears to some jazz records from the 50's or from a current artist that I hadn't heard, and we'd have great conversations about independent film. Everyone who knew him also remembers what a brilliant storyteller he was, with perfectly timed cadences and punch lines and a slightly tilted head and raised eyebrow at the end, just before the peals of laughter from him and everyone else.

Cathy and Michael, Dad, Mom, and the rest of the family: Along with the other Donahue brothers who couldn't travel to the funeral this week, I'm sorry I was unable to be there; I know that you know how deeply we will miss our only uncle.

Jeff was a true gentleman with a gentle soul. I always appreciated his courtesies and common touch the many times I appeared before him at the DMV. And I greatly appreciated his courage during his battle with cancer. I had a simple hearing with him not too long ago and we had some time to talk while waiting for it to start. Never a complaint from him. My condolences to his family.

Terribly sorry to hear of Jeff's passing. I played football with Jeff and Terry @ Fairfield Prep where we won the State Championship. Jeff was a terrific player and great competitor and a fine Irishman. I will keep him and all of his family in my prayers.

I met Jeff in Boy Scouts and we became friends. He was an excellent athlete in both football & track. Although I haven't seen Jeff in many, many years, I'll always remember our youthful escapades. RIP Jeff. My condolences to his family.
