Joan B. Fitton
December 31, 1928 - October 15, 2019Joan B. Fitton, 90 of Trumbull and formerly of Mercerville, NJ, the beloved wife of the late David S. Fitton, Sr., passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
Joan was born in Staten Island to the late Joseph and Virginia Brady. Following high school, she worked in retail at B. Altman & Co. and also modeled for several local stores.
Her role in life transitioned into that of a homemaker, which she naturally excelled at. She was active at her sons' school, the Princeton Day School, where she volunteered at the Outgrown Shop. Her career in retailing was also renewed at Hahne & Co. and Lord & Taylor, where she formed many wonderful friendships. Joan was a lover of all animals, especially dogs and will be missed by her cocker spaniel, Mocha. She was also an avid New York Yankees and Giants fan.
Joan is survived by her sons, David S. Fitton, Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Westport, and Doug Fitton and his wife Catherine Dodds-Fitton of Naples, FL. She will also be missed by her loving grandchildren, Andy Fitton of Minneapolis, MN and Valerie, Ryan, Sean and Mary Fitton, all of Westport, as well as Caitlin and Michael Fitton of Florida. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Bill and her dear friend, Heather Forbes.
Friends are invited to greet her family on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Shaughnessey Banks Funeral Home, 50 Reef Rd. in Fairfield Center. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Luke Church in Westport. Interment will follow in Lawrenceville Cemetery in New Jersey.

Heaven gained an Angel tonight in my Dear Aunt Joan. Family meant the world to her and despite the miles between us, she meant the world to us. She never forgot a birthday or holiday and always made you feel loved and cherished beyond words. l will miss our late-night phone calls discussing politics, world events, family history, the importance of loved ones and of course our furry friends. I learned from her the value of class, grace, integrity and a good red lipstick! I will miss you dearly and the special memories we shared. We are so profoundly saddened by the passing of our dearest Aunt Joan. She was beloved by all who knew her and was one of the sweetest, most thoughtful people in our lives. She was beautiful inside and out and will be missed dearly. We know that she'll be looking down on us from Heaven and we will cherish her memory in our hearts for the rest of our days. My sweet Aunt Joan - you embodied Pure Love. No matter that for many years we lived on separate coasts. Every phone call, every card, gift, letter - you established and maintained a special connection as though you lived right next door throughout the decades.
