Joao S. Leandres

LEANDRES Joao S. Leandres, age 94, of Monroe, beloved husband of the late Maria A. Bairos Leandres, passed away Sunday, May 9, 2010, in his home. Joao was born in Santa Maria, Azores, Portugal, son of the late Manuel and Maria Joaquina Leandres. He was a member of Local 665 and had worked for local construction companies. Joao was predeceased by four brothers and two sisters. Survivors include his beloved children, all of Monroe, two sons, Antonio B. Leandres and wife Amelia, and Joe B. Leandres; two daughters, Maria Geismar and Inez Cavaliere and husband Vincent; a brother, Luis Leandres; and a sister, Helena Freitas, both of Hudson, Mass.; five cherished grandchildren, Tommy Leandres and wife Andrea, Jessica Woods and husband Bob, Michael Cavaliere, Ines Dodge and husband Jeff and David Geismar; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Alana, Kara and Maya and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, at 9 a.m. from the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10 a.m., in St. Jude Church, Monroe, with a Mass of Christian Burial.
