John Bova Obituary

BOVA John V. Bova, Sr., age 78, entered into eternal rest on February 17, 2011 at Griffin Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Martha (DeFilippo) Bova of 56 years and was a proud resident of the Shelton community. John was born in New Haven on June 10,1932, son of the late Peter and Virginia (Cuccarello) Bova. He had the distinction of serving his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War and received the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal for his courageous duty. John was employed as a produce specialist at Stop & Shop for 37 years and later as a greeter at Wal-Mart, Shelton for 15 years. He was a dedicated parishioner of the Huntington Chapel, and was a committed member of the Ansonia, Derby and Shelton Senior Centers. At the Shelton Senior Center, John enthusiastically taught his fellow members how to play the organ. John loved sports; he rooted for the NY Yankees, NY Giants and UCONN Women's Basketball teams and was an enthusiastic member of the Valley Horseshoe League. He was a generous and caring friend and family man, who loved making homemade crafts for those he loved. John is the loving father of John V. Bova, Jr. and his wife, Cynthia, Mark Bova, and Michael Bova and his wife, Trish; and the adoring grandfather of Shawn, Justin, Mark, A.J., and Sierra Bova. He is also survived by siblings, Peter Bova, Fred Bova, and Josephine Johnson and several nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his brother, Salvatore Bova. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton. A service will be held on Monday at the parlors at 10 a.m. with Pastor Doug Steeves officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Griffin Hospital Hospice Program or to the Griffin Hospital Cancer Center, 130 Division St., Derby. Uncle Johnny, even though we didn't see each other often as I would've liked, your very dear to my heart. The miles between us are many,& family and work didn't allow us to be there. But I have great memories of you and saw you last at your best. And the best I'll always remember you. You'll always be in our hearts. From Paula Labrecque and family, Josephine & Greg Johnson, the Tilson family, the Easter family and Sauer family.
My deepest sympathy to all my family. Your all in my prayers and have all our love.

Sincerest sympathy to the entire Bova family. I grew up with the Bova children. You lived in a home built by my dad John in White Hills. So sorry to hear of your loss. I extend prayers to Martha and the kids from myself and the entire Novotny clan.
