John Danscuk Obituary

DANSCUK John "Dan" Danscuk, age 80 of Monroe, beloved husband of Joyce Chapman Danscuk, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday, November 18, 2007 at St. Vincent's Medical Center. John was born on May 19, 1927 in Elizabeth, N.J. and was the son of the late Ivan and Mary Denjanovich Danscuk. He was a man with many passions. After his family, his biggest was music. He spent his last night doing what he's done most Saturday nights for the last 27 years, hosting "Swing and Jazz" at WMNR in Monroe. A member of St. Jude's Roman Catholic Church in Monroe, he spent more than 45 years in the town. As a member of the Monroe Republican Party, he was involved for many years in town politics, starting on the Zoning Board of appeals and spending more than 10 years on the Monroe Town Council. After his town political career ended, he became a member of the Greater Bridgeport Regional Planning agency and the Charter Communications Cable Advisory Committee. He volunteered for the AARP, teaching driver refresher courses to senior citizens. He was a veteran of World War II, serving the Army Air Corps as an air photographer in the South Pacific. He graduated from Rutgers University and went on to a successful career starting in Lily Tulip in Holmdel, N.J. He then moved to Warnaco in Bridgeport, before ending his career traveling around the world as an internal auditor for Tetley in Shelton. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and those who knew him, as well as everyone who listened to him. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Joyce; his children, two daughters, Diane Danscuk-Ball of Park Orchards Victoria, Australia and Barbara Francis of Broad Brook; two sons, John Danscuk of West Haven and Tommy Danscuk of Freehold, NJ; four cherished grandchildren, Eric Ball, Sara Francis, Christopher Danscuk Miller and Jarod Danscuk; father-in-law to Alan Ball and Robin Danscuk; four brothers, Pete, George, Mike and Joe Danscuk; and a sister, Mary; along with sisters-in-law, Peg Chandler, Camille and Lillian Danscuk; along with several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass on Friday, November 23, 2007 at 12 p.m. in St. Jude's Church of Monroe. Interment will be private. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Church, 707 Monroe Tpke., Monroe, CT or to the WMNR, 731 Main Street, Monroe, CT 06468. God Bless John and God give comfort to all of his family and loved ones. John will be spinning the swing and jazz records up in heaven! I worked with John when I was employed by WMNR twelve years ago. A very nice gentleman, and when I was at the station during his show, he was always nice to talk with and share music with. I met his lovely wife Joyce a few times too and enjoyed hearing him talk about his kids and grandkids. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
