John Doonan Obituary
John Henry Doonan, age 87, of Bridgeport, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2025, in Fairfield, CT.
Born in County Leitrim, Ireland, he was the son of the late Thomas and Bridget Doonan. John immigrated to the United States in 1970 and worked for the Town of Fairfield for over 30 years. He was a proud member of the Gaelic American Club, where he enjoyed spending time with his fellow Irishmen.
John is survived by his brothers, Peter Doonan and his wife Mary Ann of Stratford, and Joe Doonan of Bronxville, NY; his sister, Eileen Moran, and brother-in-law Albert of County Leitrim, Ireland; as well as many nieces and nephews, near and far.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his brothers Tom, Michael, and Jim, his sisters Maureen Corcoran and brother-in-law Richard Corcoran of Trumbull and Nancy Kelly, and brother-in-law Dennis of England, and sister-in-law Mary Doonan of Bronx, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will to be celebrated on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 399 Washington Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. The family will receive guests prior to the service. Interment will follow at St. Michael's Cemetery in Stratford, CT.
