John Glenn Obituary

Glenn, John "Bucky".
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of John English "Bucky" Glenn of Ansonia on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at home surrounded by his family. A lifelong Valley resident, John was born in New Haven, Connecticut on September 17, 1936, beloved son of the late John T. and Mary English Glenn. On November 16, 1956, he was married to the love of his life, the late Anne Marie Grova Glenn, with whom he joins in eternal rest. John leaves behind three dedicated, loving children and their spouses, Lisa Matejek (James) of Ansonia, Christine Glenn (Ray Ditoto) of Oxford, and John E. Glenn II (Sharon) of Jensen Beach, FL. Seven grandchildren who he adored, James, Joshua, and Amanda Matejek, and John E. III, Casey, Tory, and Kade Glenn. Special friend and companion, with whom he made a home, Joan Stanko of Oxford and her caring family. Brother Edward (Rita) of Ansonia. Sisters-in-law Josephine Greggos of Shelton, Jessie Lepeska of Ansonia, and Carmela Loda of New York, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins & Canine friends Mitzi and Cooper. John was raised in faith as Roman Catholic and a Communicant of the Church of the Assumption, in Ansonia. For the last 15 years he was also a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Oxford. He attended the Assumption School and was a graduate of the class of 1950. He was an all-star athlete and a 1954 graduate of Ansonia High School where he played football, baseball, and excelled in track. After high school, John enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. He was a 35-year employee of the United Illuminating Company, from which he retired in 1996. Proud to call this his home, John served the City of Ansonia for many years as a member of the Board of Aldermen, representing the North End 1st Ward, the Democratic Town Committee, the former Sewer Authority, and the Board of Fire Commissioners. He was also a 52-year member and past Captain of the Ansonia Fire Department Charters Hose Co. #4. He enjoyed participating in many parades, Memorial Day picnics, and the annual North End Reunions. John was a supporter of local sports, including his cherished Ansonia Chargers football team for which he served as statistician for over 40 seasons and accompanied to numerous championship games across the Naugatuck Valley League and state of Connecticut. His family expresses their gratitude to Linda Haynes and the staff at Connecticut Hospice Home Care of Shelton for their kind and compassionate care. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 (DIRECTLY) at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Assumption, 61 N. Cliff St. Ansonia. To Bucky's Family:
We have lost a real treasure. Bucky brought an energy and enthusiasm to everything he did - and he did a lot for our city, church, civic community and youth. I always enjoyed his company - knowing it would elicit a good laugh. Bucky bled Ansonia Blue - dating back to his days on the gridiron and later as the Lavender's statistician. If it was autumn, Bucky was on the sideline. I was privileged to know him. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on your loss. May his love for you comfort you in the days ahead.
Sincerely,

Tony Scalzi

Chris,I want you to know I wish you the greatest of strength during this time of loss. There is nothing a person can say that can take the sorrow and pain out of this experience but your strength will come from support and encouragement your family provides to each other, along with knowing you have many friends who you can lean on, will share your grief and help you when you need help. Be strong and remember that your dad is in a better place and you will reunite with him again; your separation is only temporary. You still have work to do here. Now is the time to cherish the happier times and special moments you spent with your father, Chris; the memories of those times will carry you forever. I know it helps me with my dad who I still think of almost daily; it will be 27 years this year that he's gone. If there is anything I can do just let me know. God bless you and watch over you now and always.
