John Mascia Obituary

Mascia, John J.
Mr. John Joseph Mascia, Sr., age 75, of Naugatuck, entered into eternal rest with his loving children by his side, Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at his home. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Peggy Mascia.
Mr. Mascia was born in Norwalk, on November 19, 1939 to Katherine Garner of Waterbury and her husband, the late John Joseph Mascia.
Besides his mother Katherine Garner of Waterbury, he is survived by his son John J. Mascia, Jr. and his wife Susan of Prospect; his two daughters: Tiffany Mascia Bierly of Terryville and Nicole Mascia Green of Shelton; his sister Diane Bernardi and his brother James Garner both of Waterbury; four Granddaughters: Jonele Mascia, Lindsey Mascia, Jaime Clark and Taylor Green, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his sister Linda Brochu of Vermont.
Mr. Mascia was a Veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from October 24, 1961 until his honorable discharge on October 22, 1965. He served as a firefighter stationed at Hancock Field in Syracuse, New York. While in the service, John and Peggy made friends with James and Myrtle Moore of West Virginia, and resurrected their friendship about 5 years ago.
John was retired after having worked for many years as a Union Commercial Painter. He enjoyed working with his best friend and "Bro" Mike Montana, Sr. of Thomaston. Mike and his wife Sandy often played cards, visited local fairs, and vacationed in the Poconos with John and Peggy.
John enjoyed playing pool and horseshoes and was a member of the Watertown Knights of Columbus Horseshoe League. John also played the lottery regularly and would split the winnings with you if it was your birthday that won. John could often be found on a Saturday or Sunday perusing classic car shows in the area. John was a lover of all pets, whether it was cats or dogs, his family's or his neighbor's. He would often have treats or biscuits -handy for distribution and was affectionately coined the "Biscuit Man". He was also an avid UCONN Basketball and New York Yankees fan.
He mostly treasured spending time with his wife and family to whom he was affectionately known as "Buzzy", "Pops" or "Bumpa". He loved cookouts in the backyard and extended family picnics. He had fond memories of his children growing up and vacationing at Indian Neck Beach in Branford. He especially enjoyed his wife and children's cooking and baking. He could often be found at events for his granddaughters such as Grandparents day at school, preschool graduation, school plays and many sporting activities.
