John Savko Obituary

John Savko
Jupiter, Florida
John Frederick "Fred" Savko passed away peacefully at the age of 78, after a long illness on October 27, 2025, with his beloved wife, Susanne Savko, by his side.
Fred was born in Bridgeport, CT, on January 5, 1947, to the late John Savko and Irene (Sulik) Savko. He was raised in Stratford, CT and graduated from Stratford High School and the University of New Haven. He also served with the United States Army Reserves.
He later lived in various towns including Milford, Ansonia and Shelton, CT. Fred moved to Singer Island, FL, in the '90s. He resided in Port St. Lucie, FL, before spending his final years as a resident of Jupiter, FL.
Fred was an avid boater and fisherman and spent many cherished days boating on Long Island Sound and overnight weekend trips to Port Jeff, NY. He loved being on the water and shared his vast knowledge of boating and fishing with his stepson, Dan G. Barbeito.
Fred was an active member of the East End Yacht Club in Bridgeport, CT, spending many hours enjoying the club, especially after a day on the water or just socializing and spending time with his beloved Dad, John Savko, and Dan.
He also loved to cook and would always commandeer the kitchen. No dish was perfect until he added his culinary expertise to it. He especially enjoyed cooking on his boat after a day of fishing or clamming, grilling poolside or helping to prepare holiday dinners.
Another favorite pastime was his love for antique cars which led him to become an enthusiastic car collector.
He opened his heart to his dogs, having provided many a stray with a warm and loving home over the years. They were always his buddies and constant companions.
Fred was a hard worker in whatever he approached. He was a successful sales representative for several different carpet and flooring mills over his long career. His professionalism, industry expertise, gift of gab and an ear-to-ear grin, always propelled him towards success throughout his entire career.
Fred is survived by two beloved stepsons, Robert G. Barbeito (Tania), of Ashville, NC, and Daniel G. Barbeito of Oxford, CT; three step-grandsons and one step-great-granddaughter; brothers, James Savko (Janet), and Jeffrey Savko (Colleen), both of Stratford, CT; and several nieces and nephews. Fred was pre-deceased by his stepson, Glen G. Barbeito.
Burial will be announced at a later date.
