John Sherman
Sherman, John R.
John Richard "Jack" Sherman, age 83, of Stratford passed away April 30, 2016. Born to Richard Johnson and Gail Williamson Sherman in Elmira, NY, he grew up in Shelton, CT and has lived in the area all his life. He leaves his 22-year partner Anne Fitzgerald of Avon, his sister Patricia Sherman of Southwick, MA, niece Deborah Banks of Granby and nephew Jeffrey Banks of East Hartford. Jack was predeceased by his wife Barbara Skiff Sherman. Jack attended Bates College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and ultimately graduated from University of Connecticut with a Bachelor in Industrial Mechanical Engineering. He joined Avco Lycoming in Stratford immediately after graduation, moved up the management ladder, and ultimately retired in 1994 from Allied Signal. Jack has had a long love of skiing, travel and sailing, spending many happy hours on Long Island Sound out of Milford Yacht Club. He served one year as Rear Commodore and three years on its board of directors. A remembrance reception will be held on Monday, May 16 from 5-7 pm at Milford Yacht Club, 131 Trumbull Ave, Milford. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the organization of one's choice.

Fond memories of Jack at Oronoque Christmas parties at my grandparents (Frank and Grace McDermott.) Neighbors since the mid 70s. Seeing the skis on the wall and recent sailing conversations. You will be missed.
