Joseph Michalek Obituary
Joseph F. Michalek, age 84, of Stratford, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 12, 2015 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Moran) Michalek.
Joe was born in Bridgeport to the late Joseph Michalek and Frances Soos, and was a graduate of Harding High School where he excelled at sports as a member of the football, baseball and track teams. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Joe was a life member of the East End Yacht Club. He loved boating, fishing, clamming and lobstering. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UCONN Women's basketball team. Joe retired from Avco-Lycoming where he had been employed as an Industrial Engineering Manager for many years.
Joe was an energetic man who was extremely charming. He was a devout Catholic who found great solace in his faith. Joe was extremely devoted to his family and was always the one to provide care to whoever needed it the most. He had a huge heart and was very generous and caring. Incredibly, and fittingly, his uncle and best buddy, Phil Grabowski, whom Joe had been taking care of for years, went together with Joe to meet the Lord on Thursday.
Survivors include three beloved children, Thomas Michalek of Waterbury, Sharleen Walton and her husband, John of Shelton and James Michalek and his wife, Kiki of Naugatuck; four loving grandchildren, Heather and Kristen Walton and Marissa and Matthew Michalek; his sister-in-law, Joan Schneider and her husband, Ron, of Sandy Hook; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Rich Michalek; and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Frank Kerecz.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Monday, March 16, 2015 at 9:45 am at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford and at 10:30 am at St. James Church with a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Thomas J. Lynch. Entombment in St. Michael Garden Mausoleum. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 pm to 6 pm. My dearest Papa, may i continue to know your purest and unconditional love from heaven as we continue to conquer the world together. I can't thank you enough for the beautiful 24 years you gave me. I have enough memories to keep me smiling for my next 84 years until we meet again. Forever guide me through the challenges of this life with that smile that radiates from your mischievous eyes. So saddened to hear about "Neighbor Joe" He received that name from my daughters who on occation would bake him treats. I also worked at Dr. office, and he would call and ask for me, and always say "Hey, It's Neighbor Joe" He always spoke of his family, very proud man. His laugh and smile were very contagious.
