Joyce Alber Obituary

Joyce A. Alber
January 29, 2025
Joyce A. Alber, a longtime resident of Trumbull, CT, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 91. She was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Helena (Cherbonneau) McBride. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Joyce was raised in Bridgeport, CT, and graduated from Bassick High School in 1951. She made Trumbull her home for more than 60 years, where she built a life centered around family, community, and her many passions. A devoted sports fan, Joyce followed the Stratford Brakettes and the New York Rangers for over 50 years. She attended games regularly and was affectionately known as the "Pin Lady" by Rangers fans and arena staff, thanks to the sweater she adorned with dozens of team pins. Joyce was a gifted artist, showcasing and selling her paintings at local art festivals. She also had a strong civic spirit, serving as a youth softball coach, Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader, an active member of the Trumbull PTA, and a participant in the Nichols Knitting Guild. She will be fondly remembered for her generous and supportive nature, always putting her children and grandchildren first. An avid reader and enthusiastic shopper, she led the charge for early morning Black Friday outings. Her creativity shone through her paintings, crocheting, and handmade Christmas ornaments, each piece a reflection of her love for family and tradition. Above all, Joyce cherished time spent with her loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever. Joyce was married for 61 years to Carl Alber, who predeceased her in 2020. She is survived by her five loving children: James Alber and his wife Kathy of Woodbridge, CT; Thomas Alber and his wife Denise of Wayland, MA; Kenneth Alber and his wife Cathy of Smithfield, RI; Robert Alber and his fiancée Irene Taylor of Leland, NC; and Karen Kruzan and her husband John of Columbus, OH. She was the proud grandmother of 12 cherished grandchildren: Mary Kate, Meg, Dan and his wife Natasha, Tricia, Matt, Aileen, Kathryn, Brad, Amy, Chris, Blake, and Parker, as well as her great-grandson Luca. She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce was predeceased by her three brothers, Joseph, Richard, and Roger McBride, and her sister, Bernadette Whalen. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the William R. McDonald Funeral Home, 2591 Main St., Stratford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. by meeting directly at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Trumbull, CT. Interment will follow in Nichols Burial Ground, Trumbull, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joyce's honor may be made to the Stratford Brakettes at www.brakettes.com/donate.htm .
