LIBERMAN: Kenneth Jerald Liberman, age 67, passed away on Sunday, December 18, in his home in Trumbull surrounded by his family after a long battle with prostate cancer. Ken was the son of Lillian and the late Lester Liberman of Stratford. Ken lived in Bridgeport throughout his youth along with his brother, Robert Liberman (Barbara) and his sisters, Tobi Silver (Charles) and Lynn Blueweiss (Jeffrey). Ken was a fun loving person with a zest for life. Ken was the loving husband for 28 years of Heather Liberman of Trumbull and a proud father to Ari (Tracy), Sarah, and Kyle Liberman. Ken was also the doting grandfather to Ari's four children, Meira, Cy, Brigg, and Eliza. Ken's love for his entire, extended family leaves an indelible mark on all of them. Ken graduated from Central High School, received a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of Bridgeport and a master's degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. From there, Ken went on to influence the lives of children in the Woodbridge Public Schools, U.S. Armed Forces (Germany), Amity Regional High School as a Physical Education teacher and as co-director of Woodbridge Recreation. As a basketball coach, Ken challenged and guided hundreds of athletes at the Bridgeport JCC, Amity Regional High School, Madison Middle School, and Trumbull High School. Ken also found great joy coaching his own children in football, soccer, and baseball throughout the years. He won two state championships, the first the Class LL Girls High School Basketball in 1980 and the second the U-11 Girls State Cup Championship in 1995. Ken's next career, as the owner of Top Hat Cleaners in Bridgeport spanned 29 years. Top Hat was more than a dry cleaners for him. He continued to help others - those who went through "Top Hat U" - and it was also the weekly meeting place for the "The Brotherhood of the Schmutz," who came together without fail to talk about life and solve the world's problems. Ken was someone who made others feel worthwhile, who never feared love, and who gave more than he ever took. Services will be held on Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Congregation B'nai Israel 2710 Park Avenue in Bridgeport. Friends are invited to arrive at 10:15 AM. Interment will follow at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association Cemetery on Black Rock Tpke. in Fairfield. Shiva will be observed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Liberman residence in Trumbull. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center at http://mskcc.convio.net /goto/kenliberman The Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.

Dear Heather,
My deepest sympathies are with you and your family. I will always remember Kenny foundly as part of my youth. He was one of those special Coaches who taught much more than how to play basketball. His lessons included that if you work hard, have dedication and humility, great things will happen. He taught the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. He taught patience, respect and discipline. By his mentorship he helped define in a positive way who I am today, probably more so than he knew, but I want you to know now how thankful I am to him. My thoughts are with you.

I felt so lucky to know Mr. Liberman, so appreciated in his presence, and so honored to be in attendance at the service today. Thank you, Mr. Liberman, for always being nice to me when I needed it most, for all your hospitality over the years, for making me laugh, and for being my away-from-home dad. I am truly grateful for every moment I spent with you. To my best friend Sarah and the whole beautiful Liberman family, Connecticut is my home away from home and all of you are family to me. I love you.

Kenny's warm smile made everyone feel special. He always asked about our sons and was truly interested in their lives. Kenny was concerned about the medical problems of others and offered kinds words of support and care.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the Liberman family. May you find comfort in your cherished memories of a vibrant, loving, and gentle man.

My heart goes out to your family. I met Kenny when Jeff and Lynn first started dating over twenty five years ago. He always made me feel like I was part of his family. When I think of Kenny I remember that he always had a hilarious wit and kind heart. Ken did not have much ego. He was brilliant but downplayed his intelligence as an everyman kind of person. I will remember him as a loving family man very much like his Dad Lester. Lucky to know a person like that....

Ken added joy into the Rawlins family home. His generous time and passion dedicated to the girls' soccer team was always respected. Phil loved to join the Saturday morning talkfest at Top Hat. Ken is remembered and prayed for by all of us.

Heather, Ari, Sarah, Kyle and family,
Nancy and I are heart broken and Ken will always hold a place in our hearts and with our family. He was a caring individual who gave much and asked nothing in return. He was a friend to all of us and I so enjoyed the interaction on those interests we shared in common. I learned much and hopefully gave something back. I will miss our conversations and the solving of every issue from world politics to UConn Women Basketball substitution patterns.

Thirty-five years ago I met Kenny as I moved into my condo. He will live in my memory - and all of yours, I'm sure - as one of the most loving, giving, and special people I have ever met. He knew exactly who he was, and found it easy to express his feelings. My life has been greatly touched by the presence of Kenny. Heartfelt condolences to the Liberman family, especially to Heather, Mrs. Liberman, Ari, Sarah, and Kyle.
