LIBERMAN: Kenneth Jerald Liberman, age 67, passed away on Sunday, December 18, in his home in Trumbull surrounded by his family after a long battle with prostate cancer. Ken was the son of Lillian and the late Lester Liberman of Stratford. Ken lived in Bridgeport throughout his youth along with his brother, Robert Liberman (Barbara) and his sisters, Tobi Silver (Charles) and Lynn Blueweiss (Jeffrey). Ken was a fun loving person with a zest for life. Ken was the loving husband for 28 years of Heather Liberman of Trumbull and a proud father to Ari (Tracy), Sarah, and Kyle Liberman. Ken was also the doting grandfather to Ari's four children, Meira, Cy, Brigg, and Eliza. Ken's love for his entire, extended family leaves an indelible mark on all of them. Ken graduated from Central High School, received a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of Bridgeport and a master's degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University. From there, Ken went on to influence the lives of children in the Woodbridge Public Schools, U.S. Armed Forces (Germany), Amity Regional High School as a Physical Education teacher and as co-director of Woodbridge Recreation. As a basketball coach, Ken challenged and guided hundreds of athletes at the Bridgeport JCC, Amity Regional High School, Madison Middle School, and Trumbull High School. Ken also found great joy coaching his own children in football, soccer, and baseball throughout the years. He won two state championships, the first the Class LL Girls High School Basketball in 1980 and the second the U-11 Girls State Cup Championship in 1995. Ken's next career, as the owner of Top Hat Cleaners in Bridgeport spanned 29 years. Top Hat was more than a dry cleaners for him. He continued to help others - those who went through "Top Hat U" - and it was also the weekly meeting place for the "The Brotherhood of the Schmutz," who came together without fail to talk about life and solve the world's problems. Ken was someone who made others feel worthwhile, who never feared love, and who gave more than he ever took. Services will be held on Tuesday December 20, 2011 at 11:00 AM from Congregation B'nai Israel 2710 Park Avenue in Bridgeport. Friends are invited to arrive at 10:15 AM.
