Lance Boros Obituary

BOROS Lance R. Boros, age 53 of the Huntington section of Shelton, the beloved husband of Lisa Fern-Boros, who lived a life full of love and laughter that ended too soon, died Thursday, February 24, 2011. Lance was known for many passions, chief among them family, friends, travel, cooking and especially time spent with loved ones on the golf course. Born April 9, 1957 in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Lance Boros Jr. and Madeline Soda Boros, and was raised in Stratford. He graduated from Bunnell High School in 1975, and went on to earn an associate's degree in business at Housatonic Community College and a culinary arts degree at the Connecticut Culinary Institute. He was a configuration engineer, working more than 13 years at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford. Prior to that, he worked for Avco Lycoming in Stratford for 13 years and was briefly a chef at the 19th Hole Restaurant in Bridgeport. Lance's father, a Fairfield native, was an accomplished amateur golfer, and his uncles were the noted professional golfers, Ernest and Julius Boros, two-time winner of the United States Open. He began playing golf as a teenager shortly after his parents died, and discovered an affinity for the sport that eventually would take him to some of the greatest golf courses in the world, among them the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland. A special highlight was caddying for his cousin, Julius' and golf professional, Guy Boros at the Greater Hartford Open and for his wife in local and USGA events. He was a member of the Highland Golf Club of Shelton, where he formerly served on the Board of Governors. Lance will be cherished by all who love him for his smile and laughter that would light up a room, as they did many a fairway, and for his kindness, generosity and eagerness to help others. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include a sister, Phyllis A.S. Boros, and her husband, David W. Keyes of Bridgeport; aunts, Rose Cella of Stratford, Irene Tuba of Fairfield, Elizabeth Hermann of Westminster, Calif., and Armen Boros of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; an uncle, Ernest Boros of Plantation, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Marguerite Fern; a sister-in-law, Cynthia Fern-King; and three nieces, Hilary and Ashley King, and Lisa M. Keyes, all of Massachusetts, as well as many cousins. Friends are invited to meet directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton, on Monday, February 28, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lisa Fern-Boros through the funeral home for a memorial fund to be set up in Lance's name at the Highland Golf Club. Lisa,
I am sad to hear of your husband's passing. I've been through this horror and still miss my husband 5 1/2 years later. Try to keep a positive outlook and involve yourself in many things to keep busy and not isolate yourself. Get out and golf...most peaceful place I know. God bless.

I would like to share my church eulogy of Lance with you all:
(part 2)
I recited and altered poem by W.H.Auden titled "funeral blues". I altered the last line to read.

"For I lost my Lance who was so pure, so good."

It poetically states how I feel about losing Lance.
Use a simple internet search for the author & title and you can find the prose as it can not be copied here. Please consider viewing the U-tube version from the movie 4 weddings and a funeral.

Dear Lisa,
I only got to know Lance recently and felt at home, appreciated and close when with him. I recall that time he cooked for us and used all that basil we picked - and the hours we spent talking about everything food and golf on the couch. This is just one of my memories; perhaps you can add it to yours. He filled your life with good things and will continue to do so. He will always be a part of you.

Lisa, Phyllis and family,

I am so sorry to hear of Lance's passing. He and I were childhood friends on Porter St, at Stony Brook. Wooster and Bunnell. He was a good person, and I'm certain that God has embraced Lance to be at his side. I will remember him fondly. Please accept my deepest condolences.

Your soul mate Lisa

March 4, 2011

I would like to share my church eulogy of Lance with you all:
(part 1)
I was in love with Lance before I even knew it -- I was 23 he was 27, almost 30 years ago.
He was my Lover, my best friend, my soul mate, and even my caddie. He was the chef whose food we all loved -- Our own ‘Baconator.” I always tried to get him to use a little less bacon and butter, but in hindsight I’m glad he enjoyed every strip, slab and Szalonna Roast that he did.
Fashion will never be the same at Highland Golf Club, his bright oranges, purples and yellows will always be our vivid memory of him. So will the many occasions when Lance was the life of the party, or would just light up the room when he entered it.
Lance loved everyone in this room, and everyone he met took an immediate shine to him. There are several here who considered Lance as their best friend, when most of us are lucky to have just one person who thinks of us like that.
Although Lance lost his parents at a very young age, there were many Aunts, Uncles and in-laws who treated him as if he was their own child. His relationship with his sister was a bond so strong words cannot describe it.
I rarely ask a favor from God, but with you all as my witnesses, I only ask God to welcome him and cradle him in his arms, as we would do now, if only we could.

It's 11 o'clock Sunday night and i just saw the paper. What can I say! I can't believe it. I had to look twice before I realized It was real. It makes you think twice about how to live your life.
