Leo McGinley Obituary

Leo McGinley Jr
2/21/2026
Leo Linck McGinley Jr., affectionately known as Curly, left this world on Saturday February 21, 2026, at The Waters of Gainesboro, TN in conjunction with Gentiva Hospice. Born on May 7, 1948, in Derby, CT, Leo's journey was one of service, love, and a deep commitment to his family and country.
Leo dedicated a significant part of his life to public service. He began his career as a police officer with the Seymour Police Department in Seymour, Connecticut, where he worked diligently to protect and serve the community. His passion for service continued at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford, Connecticut, where he served as a security officer in the Presidential Program for 25 years until his retirement. In 2010, after years of devoted work, Leo and his beloved wife Marilyn chose to make their home in Granville, Tennessee, a testimony to their adventurous spirit and love for life.
As a person, Leo was known for his kind and tenderhearted nature, coupled with a directness that earned him the respect of all who knew him. His sense of humor was infectious, and he had a unique gift for storytelling that brought joy and laughter to those around him. A proud and patriotic man, Leo exemplified the values he held dear throughout his life.
A member of the Catholic Faith, Leo attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. He loved Jesus and was a firm believer in the Goodness and Mercy of the Lord. His patron saint, St. Michael the Archangel, was always his hero and protector, especially being a member of law enforcement most of his life.
Leo's legacy continues through his loving family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn Kelly McGinley; his sons, Christopher McGinley (Sherri), Michael McGinley (Marcia); his daughter, Heather Konnik (Paul); his sisters, Eileen McGinley and Karen McGinley; as well as many cherished grandchildren, including Stephanie Ivey (Sam), Anna McGinley, Carissa Bensey, Joseph Bensey, Pamela Meresko (Michael), Amanda Adams (William) and Christopher Johnson (Amanda). Leo was also a proud grandfather to six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind brother-in-law, James Kelly. Each of these relationships added richness to Leo's life and remained central to his heart.
Leo has been preceded in death by his parents, Leo Linck McGinley Sr. and Agnes Marie Dolan McGinley, who laid the foundation for the loving man he became.
The memory of Leo Linck McGinley Jr. will be honored at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 27 from 10 - 11 a.m. followed by a Mass celebrating Leo's life at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Cookeville City Cemetery.
A Celebration of Life for Leo is planned later this year in Connecticut.
As we say goodbye to a remarkable man, we hold close the memories of his kindness, stories, and the laughter that echoed through the lives he touched. Leo's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

I worked with Leo at Sikorsky Aircraft in the Security Department. He was great to work with, but the stories that he told were the best. I don't believe I've met a person with such a good sense of humor and who told as many stories as Leo, and they were really good stories. I laughed a lot when we worked together. I offer my very sincerest condolences to Maryln and his family.
