Leonard Srebnick Obituary

Leonard Srebnick
Leonard Srebnick, 94, of Bridgeport, CT, formerly of Trumbull, CT, passed away on September 29, 2017. Leonard was born in Bridgeport, the son of the late Isidore and Lena (Katz) Srebnick, and brother to his late sister Ruth (Srebnick) Cooper. He graduated from Bassick High School in 1939, and subsequently earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from City College of New York in 1943. Mr. Srebnick served in the US Army from 1943-1945 in the 36th Bomb Squadron. He met his wife of 64 years at the Bridgeport Jewish Community Center, and they married on December 5, 1954.
After his service he began a career as an accountant, and a few years later as a self-employed CPA, finally retiring in 1992 from the accounting firm of Nishball, Srebnick, Zaluda, and Carp. Leonard served for many years on the finance committee of the Jewish Home for the Elderly, and was a life member of the board of directors. He was also active in B'nai Brith, serving the Bridgeport, CT chapter as treasurer, Hillel chairman, and chairman in 1960-1961.
Mr. Srebnick was an avid tennis player, and instilled in his sons a lifelong love of the game. For a time, he found adventure while riding on his motorcycle. In later years he loved the challenges of learning new things on his computer, and taught adult education courses at his synagogue. He will also be remembered for his wry sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara (Lipshires) Srebnick, and devoted sons David Srebnick, age 61 of Acton, Massachusetts, and Joel Srebnick, age 58, of Newport News, Virginia. He was predeceased by his sister Ruth (Srebnick) Cooper.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home at 88 Beach Road, Fairfield, Connecticut, with interment following at the Adath Yeshurun Cemetery, 250 Reid St., Fairfield, CT. I remember babysitting for David and Joel, and Lenny always with his tennis racket. Lenny and Barbara were great next door neighbors when I was growing up on Waller Road in Trumbull. All my love to the family.
