Lorraine Tamas Obituary

Lorraine Messer Tamas
Lorraine Messer Tamas, 75, beloved wife of Robert Tamas, entered into eternal rest on August 16, 2022 surrounded by her family at Bridgeport Hospital.
Lorraine was born on February 26, 1947 in Rockland, Maine and grew up in Union, Maine. She graduated from Union High School in 1965 and went on to earn her B.A. in Home Economics from the University of Maine, Farmington in 1969. Lorraine then pursued a Master's in elementary education from the University of Bridgeport and a 6th year in education.
Lorraine moved to Connecticut to begin her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher at Wooster Middle School in Stratford. She met her husband and soulmate Bob through the Sterling Ski Club. They were married October 23, 1976 and have lived in the Lordship section of Stratford for the past 44 years. She left teaching after 12 years to raise her two children. As her children grew older Lorraine went back to teaching 3rd and 4th grade math and science at Stratford Academy Johnson House, retiring in 2009.
Lorraine's lifelong interests included gardening, reading, skiing, crafting, hiking and camping in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, cooking and baking, and enjoying the beach.
Lorraine is predeceased by her mother Annabelle Messer and father Colby Messer along with an older sister Lorna Pyzynski. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Tamas, two children Kate (Shawn) Temple of Cheshire, CT and Stephen (Khinma) Tamas of Colorado Springs, CO. She is also survived by sisters Diane Jerome of Winthrop, ME and Nancy Howard of Union, ME, several nieces and nephews; Ron Howard, Greg Howard, Suzanne Young, Brian and Matthew Pyzynski, and Derek Tamas and Jodi Logo. Lorraine had two grandchildren Sarah and Sydney Temple who she adored.
Lorraine suffered a stroke in 2010 which she fought resiliently until the end. During this time she found support through the Bridgeport Hospital Ahlbin Stroke Group which she loved dearly. Her goal after her stroke was to read every Pulitzer Prize winning novel. Her final joy in life was her Aussiedoodle, Bella.
Lorraine's family would like to thank all of the doctors and nurses who have been with her through this struggle.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Stratford LIbrary Association in her honor.
Calling hours will be Saturday, August 20 at Pistey Funeral Home in Stratford, CT from 12 p.m.-4 p.m. A private family burial will follow in Union, ME at a later date. .
