Louis Mongillo Obituary

Louis J. Mongillo Jr.
Louis J. Mongillo Jr., age 82, of Stratford, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Carolton Chronic and Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield. He was affectionately known to his family as "Jun" or "Junior". In his final month, he was surrounded by his family and neighbors.
Born in Bridgeport, he was the son of the late Louis and Nancy LaRocco Mongillo. Louis was a graduate of Bullard Havens Technical High School where he was on the bowling team and played Intramurals. Louis was a U.S. Navy veteran during the Cuban Missile Crisis where he was a machinist. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he was a mechanic for many years before retiring from Oronoque Village in Stratford as a landscaper. For years, he was a great "lefty" bowler and enjoyed his bowling leagues at the Bowl-o-Rama, Nutmeg and Milford Lanes. Louis was an avid fan of the New York Yankees, PGA Golf and UConn Men's and Women's Basketball teams. This past year, he enjoyed watching the UConn women win the NCAA Tournament and Rory McIlroy win the Masters. After retirement, he enjoyed his naps on his deck enjoying the sunshine, watching game shows and sports.
He was predeceased by his nephew, Scott Browning and two sisters, Mary Wilson and Judith Browning.
Survivors include his children, Tracy (Jim) Garthwaite, Louis Mongillo, Gina (James) Schafer and Tammi Toten (Jason), 11 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude and special thanks to Dr. Harold Tara and Dr. Robert Weinstein for their care and compassion over the past 2 years. In addition, we would like to thank the Carolton staff who treated Louis like family in his last month of life as well as the Masonicare hospice nurses.
Services have been entrusted by the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull and are private for the family.

I knew Lou from Bowl-o-rama in Bridgeport. I also knew his father Lou, and his nephew Scott. It was a blessing to have had them all in my life, and I´m pleased to call them my friends. Sending my deepest condolences to Lou´s family. He was a great guy and he will be missed. May he rest in peace in God´s embrace.

I knew Lou, and his dad `Hooks´, from Bowl-o-Rama; two amazing gentlemen. After the bowling alley closed, I´d run into Lou in one store or another (but it´s been many years); always had time for a conversation. I remember him as a kind person. I send my condolences and prayers to the Mongillo family. May Lou rest in peace.

I worked with Lou for many years at Oronoque Village. I was a grounds foreman and Lou was one of the best workers on my team. And a very good friend as well. He will be dearly missed.

Lou was a good neighbor since we moved here on Edmund Street in 1997. My son Robert helped out a few times when his blind fell and got a few items when asked when Robert was going Food shopping. May he rest in peace. We will miss you Lou. Rich, Lynn Walytok and Robert Carroll
