Louise Morrison Obituary

Louise "Liz" Morrison
Oct. 12, 2024
Louise "Liz" McKnight Morrison, age 94, beloved wife of the late Sherman Morrison, passed away on October 12, 2024, at the home of her daughter, Betsy, in Idaho. She was born in Bridgeport, CT on July 31, 1930, to Earl and Sophie McKnight. Liz grew up in Black Rock, graduated from Bassick High School (Class of 1948) and the Univ. of Connecticut (1952) with a BA in English. She was a Kappa Alpha Theta sorority sister. Liz met Sherman at UConn and they married in June, 1952, then spent two adventurous years in Alaska before returning to CT, to start a family, residing in Fairfield for 30 years.
Liz was a nature lover, sun-worshiper, and environmentalist. She enjoyed swimming, sailing, skiing, and ice skating with her family. Liz took up jogging with her daughters and her dogs in the early '70s and competed in road races, where she beat runners half her age. She faithfully attended all her children's athletic events, and never complained about washing a dirty uniform. Liz volunteered at United Congregational Church in Bridgeport, was a substitute teacher, and swim instructor. She led school children on nature walks in the Audubon Sanctuary as well as "Save the Wetlands" tours.
Her own children in high school, Liz became a licensed travel agent and traveled the world during her 36-year career, even living in Saudi Arabia, during her husband's employment. Liz and Sherm loved golf and belonged to Brooklawn Country Club. In 1984, they moved to Hilton Head, SC, to enjoy golf and eventually, retirement. They were active members of Dolphin Head Golf Club in Hilton Head Plantation. Liz enjoyed activities with the Avid Gardeners and the Audubon Society. Jogging gave way to walking, but she rarely missed her daily walk, even at age 93.
Liz was a dedicated mother, devoted spouse, and loyal friend. She will be remembered for her compassion and kindness, generosity, intelligence, and sense of humor. Liz is survived by her children: Nancie Morrison-Evans (husband, David Evans) of West Palm Beach, FL, Robert Morrison (wife, Terry) of Westford, MA, Susan Rodis-Jones (husband, Robert Jones) of Sarasota, FL, and Betsy Morrison of Victor, ID; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; her brother, Richard McKnight (wife, Judi) of Hilton Head, SC; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Earl McKnight.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Donations in memory of Liz may go to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital ( stjude.org ).
