Mark Rabinowitz Obituary

Mark Rabinowitz
Mark Rabinowitz, 71 of Branford, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, on March 1, 2024. Mark was born on March 11, 1952 in Bronx, New York and was always proud of his New York upbringing and Jewish heritage.
Mark was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren. They were the center of his life and he often told his wife "We are so fortunate to have so much good in our lives."
Mark's career in education spanned over forty years. He was a teacher in Darien, CT before coming to Branford Public Schools in 1977 where he first worked as a school psychologist. He was named principal of Sliney School in 1984 and in 1991, became the principal of Tisko Elementary school, where he dedicated 19 years, until his retirement in 2010. He established a culture of respect, excellence, and family with a mantra of "Be the best you can be". He valued his relationships with each student who passed through the halls and the long lasting friendships he developed with the teachers with whom he worked.
After his retirement from Tisko, Mark continued to work as an interim school psychologist in many school districts and was especially proud of his work with high school students in Region 17.
Mark enjoyed spending time with treasured friends, spending time in Florida, kayaking, attending Jimmy Buffet concerts, maintaining his gardens, and fraternizing with his Hotchkiss Grove neighbors on the beach. He was a great conversationalist and actively listened to your thoughts and ideas. He treasured his role as a grandparent and enjoyed any and everything that interested his grandchildren.
Mark was an amazing man and will be tremendously missed. He is survived by Fran, his beloved wife of 43 years, his children: Sean (Kara), Mara, Megan (Peter) and his six grandchildren: Jordan, Jack, Benjamin, Vivian, Henry, and Charlie. He is also survived by his Aunt Barbie and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Fannie Rabinowitz and his brother, Fred Rabinowitz.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday morning March 6th at 11 a.m. at Temple Beth Tikvah, 196 Durham Rd., Madison. Interment to follow at Temple Beth Tikvah sec. of Beaverbrook Cemetery, RT. 145, Clinton. The family will sit Shiva at Mark and Fran's home Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 3 to 9 p.m.
The Rabinowitz family would like to thank the amazing staff at Hospice for their caring and support during Mark's last days.
The Robert E. Shure & Son Funeral Home, New Haven is in care of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clifford Beers Community Care Center at 41 Marne Street, Hamden, CT 06514.

I am saddened to learn of Mr. Rabinowitz's passing. He was one of the greatest principals I worked for. I am a former employee of Tisko School, in Branford.

And, he was a real nice person.

I was saddened & surprised when I read Marks obituary.
He was much to young. The Mark I remember was full of life, always upbeat.
My family had the privilege of meeting Mark ( Mr Rabinowitz to his students) when our younger son Marcello entered Tisko.
Mark was one of a kind.... Everyone loved him including me!
He was an amazing principal...wonderful with his students.
He will be missed by many.
Please except our condolences at this time.

Fran:
I've been in Florida the last two months and somehow didn't know that Mark had passed away. I'm so sorry for your loss. May his memory always be for a blessing.

I wonder if Mark grew up in the South Bronx which is where I was born. I went to PS 66, Herman Ridder and Monroe High School. I had a childhood friend named Thea Rabinowitz and I've never been able to find her.

Mark sounded like a terrific person and I'm sorry that I can't remember ever meeting him.

Please know that you're in my thoughts and I'll reach out when I get home.

With love,
Paula Spinner Schwartz

Dearest Fran, I am so very sorry and shocked about Marc's passing. The picture you selected with his smile is how I remember him. He was so genuine and fun to be with. He loved HIS natural children and his school children. And, boy, was he so proud of their accomplishments. I am truly saddened by his loss. I am also sad as I just heard - the news that it takes longer to get to AL; let's keep in touch. Mary Y

Fran and family, words cannot express the sense of loss at Mark's passing. He did so much for so many, including our children George, Max and Christian. We cherish so many fond memories: participating in committees at Tisko including the music teacher selection committee, (Mr. L!), dinner at our place, sitting around a fire on the beach singing. We truly loved him and will continue to honor his legacy of love, respect and excellence by striving to be the best we can be!

I am just one of what must be thousands and thousands of parents who are grateful that their children attended Tisko school under the leadership of Mark Rabinowitz. His joy, kindness and enthusiasm were infectious and I was blessed that my three children could attend school there. My prayers and condolences to his family and loved ones.

My deepest condolences to you and your family for the passing of Principal Mark Rabinowitz. I am deeply saddened as he was the best principal a teacher could ever have. I only taught one year at Tisko and he hired me back in 2008 as 3rd grade teacher. I was amazed to be invited by him to his house for some wine and kayaking. I had a blast! I was torn to leave Tisko for a ministry position at my church and he was the main reason I did not want to leave. He made the atmosphere loving, safe, and fun! We even kept in touch thru the years with our holiday cards to each other. He was a great man! I hope to make the services tomorrow. May God bless and comfort your family during this time.

Mark is one of the most outstanding, amazing, incredible people I have ever met. He was reMARKable! We were so very lucky to have all three of our kids go to schools where Mark was principal. Every school was infused with his warmth and positivity and his ability to see and nurture the good in every student, teacher and parent. At Sliney school his motto was "we stand tall " and at Tisko he truly helped everyone to be "the best they could be", and set the example of being the most superb human being. I am grateful beyond words for the light he shined in this world, and his good works will live on forever. Love, Jeanne & Bill Crowley and family.
