Maureen Barry Obituary

Maureen Leahy Barry
Maureen Leahy Barry, age 77, peacefully left this world with her family by her side on April 17, 2020. She was born in Bridgeport Hospital to the late Adrian and Helen Skolinsky Leahy. She attended St. Thomas Aquinas Grammar School, Roger Ludlow High School, Class of 1960 and earned a B.S. in Nursing from Norwalk Hospital and a Masters Degree in Nursing from the University of Bridgeport.
She was a dedicated and compassionate nurse with a career that took her from area nursing homes to working as Director of Nursing for a Home Health Agency and ultimately as a sub-acute care case manager. Maureen was everyone's nurse. She was quick to help with practical medical advice and hands-on care.
Maureen grew up in Fairfield and met the love of her life, Fred, at the Village drug store. Maureen and Fred were married in 1963 and remained in Fairfield where they raised their family. Because she was the proud daughter of one of Fairfield's first career firefighters, the wife of a Fairfield Police Officer, the mother and mother-in-law of Fairfield Firefighters, her scanner was always on and she listened to it vigilantly. Maureen loved to read and travel, and, was a generous and gracious party host. Her annual Mardi Gras party was a beloved tradition for family and friends. She was devoted to her family and was always there when needed for rides to baseball practice, to attend school events and for advice and support.
Maureen is survived by her three children, Karen and Roger Caisse, Kevin and Colleen Barry and Patrick and companion Lynn Erazmus; brother, Ade (MaryAnn) Leahy; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jack and Carmella Barry; grandchildren, Brian and David Caisse, Jessica and Lauren Barry, Zachary and Sean Barry; special niece Megan Appicello; Pru O'Brien who was like a daughter and many nieces, nephews and friends. Private family services will take place with interment in St. Thomas Cemetery. The family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send all donations to the Seymour Pink Foundation, P.O. Box 333, Seymour, CT 06483 (www.seymourpink.com), a charity Maureen was passionate about. So sorry to hear of Maureen's passing. I worked with her way back at MetLife, where I learned so much from her. I never felt as though I was going to work since she knew how to make the day not only interesting, but fun. Rest in Peace Maureen.

She was so appreciative of what I did to help her. It's been a long while since we worked at MetLife but she left an impression on me. May she Rest In Heaven with the Lord and May he give you peace.

Dear Karen, Kevin, Patrick, and family:
We were so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom and grandmother. She was a special person -- always with a sparkle in her eyes, and a fun conversationalist and warm and welcoming entertainer at her home. It was so obvious how much she loved all her children, grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. We're especially grateful for the loving relationship that she shared with her brother Ade (Adrian) -- our father and grandfather. She will be missed. May those warm, funny, and crazy memories of her keep you all comforted in the coming days.

Love, The Dobbin family (Jolene, Josh, Justine, and Jacinda)

My heart goes out to Maureen's family. I worked with Maureen at MetLife. She was a wonderful friend who I often consulted for her nursing experience. I met her a few months ago at Trader Joe and we talked about getting together for lunch. I am heartbroken that I did not get that last chance to talk and laugh together. I will always remember her smiling and caring. We have lost one beautiful soul in this world.

Kevin, Karen and Patrick:
My heart goes out to you on the loss of your Mom. I first met her when she was Nursing Supervisor and I worked in maintenance at the JHE in Fairfield in the early 70's. I was still at Prep then and she always had a great sense of humor and made the hours go by quickly.
Maureen even set me up with my Prom date, Joyce Brown, (who was also your babysitter...lol)!

Those are the memories I will have of her. All of you have your own.

May God Bless her and keep her.

It takes a village and the Pepperidge Circle community is that village Maureen was part of for over 50 years. She was our safety net, our go-to person when illness occurred. Whether it was a bruised knee or a terminal illness, Maureen would be there. She was our advisor, confidant, and sounding board. Her passing is an enormous blow for the community. As one of the other neighbors said, "She was the core of the community." Sincere condolences.
