Michael Micinilio Obituary

Michael A. Micinilio
Michael A. Micinilio, 51, passed away Friday, May 26th surrounded by his devoted family after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Michael was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport. He was the son of Dolores M. Micinilio and the late James M. Micinilio of Bridgeport. He was a 1983 graduate of Central High School, Bridgeport and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Illustration from the University of Bridgeport. Michael was also a student at the Seminario Laboratorio Internazionale in Padua, Italy and La Scuola per Stranieri in Siena, Italy. He received a Master's Degree in Fine Art in Computer Art from the School of Visual Arts, New York. In addition to his mother Dolores, Michael is survived by his brothers and their families: Dr. James P. Micinilio and Susan Monarca of Stratford, Gregg A. Micinilio of Derby, Patrick P. Micinilio and Kathleen Micinilio of Trumbull, his beloved nephews Sam, Ben, Ty, and Max Micinilio, and several aunts, uncles and cousins and especially his cousin Alice McLaine who was constantly by his side throughout his illness. He worked at the Fairfield University Media Center as a computer graphics specialist and more recently at the Scenic Art Studio Inc. in Milford. Michael was a talented freelance artist doing art work for several New Haven businesses most notably The Wine Thief and Bar Restaurant. His specialties included chalk/pastel drawings, wood-working and sculpture. He was a free spirit who loved the outdoors, often hiking and snowshoeing with his family and friends. Michael never missed a family party and could always be counted on to bring his trademark dish, chicken quesadillas, and a specialty lager that he would insist everyone try. He never shied away from conversations, and he always made people feel special by listening to their stories. He trash-talked with his nephews on "pasta nights" when they played handball with one another on the front porch, and could offer sage-like advice on their latest relationships at the same time. One of Michael's greatest attributes was his ability to alleviate any stressful situation with a witty remark or a quirky facial expression. Michael watched every UConn Women's basketball game with great passion and could not wait to share his analysis of each player with the family. Without question, his most ardent pastime was fishing, especially with his brothers. He was happiest when he was setting the hook in the mouth of a striped bass, watching a blue fish go airborne at the end of his line, or floating down the Housatonic River in Kent in an inner tube while trying to entice a small mouth bass to hit his lure top water. The family would like to thank all who visited and prayed for Michael during his illness. He was a man of the heart, and he will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering that will take place on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Truly a sad surprise of this news. I've known Mike since we both were one of the first artists who moved into Read's in 2005. I visited Mike at St. Joseph when he was recovering from his stroke a month ago. My deepest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
