Millicent Alverne Zolan, longtime Fairfield, CT resident passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of August 26, 2023 at Sunrise of Fairfield. She was 97. Millicent was born in Bridgeport, CT on October 6, 1925 to the late Milton and Isabelle Lansdowne Friedberg. Millicent's childhood years were spent in Bridgeport on Hickory Street with Beardsley Park as her playground. She was a huge advocate for the city and wrote a memoir entitled "Growing Up In Bridgeport".
Millicent was a proud alumna of Lauralton Hall Girls School where she maintained lifelong friendships with her classmates. After graduation from Penn Hall Jr. College Millicent married and raised her family in her beloved home in Fairfield which she designed and lived in for 71 years. She spent many years in market research after her children were grown.
Millicent was a gifted story teller and prolific writer and an avid collector of Barbie dolls, hats and all things collectible! She loved the holidays and the table was always specially set for each. Her many activities included the Pacers Walking Group, the Confetti Dancers and the Phoenix Writing Group in which she was currently involved.
Millicent is the beloved mother of Melody Kniley Tierney (Philip Tierney) of Chester, CT, Vicki Foxx (Jason Kanter) of North Haven, CT and Frederick (Judy) Zolan of Pacific Palisades, CA. She leaves behind her grandchildren Jeremy, Eric, Jeffrey and Stephanie Zolan, her sister Carol Jayne and daughter-in-law Jeannette Zolan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Russell and brother Clayton Friedberg. Millicent also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Beardsley Zoo or the Barnum Museum both of Bridgeport.
