Nicholas Quattone Obituary

Nicholas J. "Mr. Marnick" Quattone, Sr.
Nicholas J. (Marnick) Quattone, Sr., age 100, of Stratford, beloved husband of the late Margaret (Angiolillo) Quattone, died peacefully at home on Thursday, November 23, 2017.
Mr. Quattone was born in Norwalk on December 17, 1916 to the late Joseph and Mary (Lombard) Quattone. He proudly served his country as a Corporal with the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II where he fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima. He was on top of Mount Suribachi when they raised the first flag. He was wounded in action and was a recipient of a Purple Heart.
He and Margaret were the owners of Marnick's Restaurant and Motel in Lordship. They opened Nick's Hideaway in 1956. In 1963, Margaret and Nick changed the name of the business to Marnick's and many people referred to him as "Mr. Marnick". Always family owned and operated, Marnick's has been serving generations of Stratford families.
Survivors include two beloved children, Nicholas Quattone and his wife, Rita and Josephine Johnstone and her husband, Keith; six grandchildren, Richard Chaffee and his wife, Marie, Michael Chaffee and his wife, Carlynn, Nicole Staples and her husband, Michael, Nicholas Quattone, III, Casey Quattone and Tony Zeko; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lee Cusano and Pat Angiolillo; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sisters, Angie MacLean and Mildred "Millie" LaVarno.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at 10 a.m. DIRECTLY at Our Lady of Peace Church with a Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Rev. Michael A. Boccacio. Interment with military honors at St. Michael Cemetery. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford. Contributions in his memory may be made to Our Lady of Peace Sanctuary Fund, 110 Maple St., Stratford, CT 06615 or Disabled American Veterans, c/o VA Medical Center, PO Box 310909, Newington, CT 06131-0909.
