Patricia Abbott Obituary

Abbott, Patricia T.
Patricia Tabram Abbott passed away peacefully on February 22 surrounded by love and support of her family, friends and spirit of her late husband, William F. Abbott, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Richard Abbott of Bridgeport, CT, her daughter, Sally Cadoux, son-in-law, Peter Cadoux and three beloved grandchildren, Stephen, Philip and Elysse, all of Westport. Pat, along with her late husband, were proud Westport residents for over 50 years.
Born in New York City, to the late Ralph Cressman Tabram and Miriam Eichart Tabram, Pat spent her early years in Mt. Vernon, NY, before heading to boarding school excelling in academics and honing in her love of science. Pat graduated from Davis and Elkins College; as a pre-med major, graduating with a B.S. in Biology. She followed her passion in health care graduating in 1952 from The Flower Fifth Avenue School of Nursing of the New York Medical College. Working as Clinical Supervisor of the operating rooms at Flower Fifth Avenue, she met the love of her life, and future husband, William F. Abbott, Jr. They were married for 58 wonderful years before his death less than a year ago.
They fell in love with Westport during their frequent visits and have been residents since 1962. One could always find them taking full advantage of their regular Friday afternoon golf game, weekly tennis outings, sunsets at the beach and when not physically active, they could always be found at The Westport Public Library where they became early active supporters.
Pat retired from nursing and worked for 25 years as the Executive Director of the Westport Housing Authority where she oversaw the development and management of it's affordable housing projects; Hales Court, Canal Park, Sasco Creek Village and Hidden Brook. She was described and honored for her absolute sense of fairness and honesty in all her dealings with the applicants, tenants, contractors, suppliers as well as town, state and national officials. She also served as Vice Chairman of the Health District, a Board member of the Community Council and was active in political committees. In addition to these achievements, Pat was a classically trained pianist, painter, accomplished cook (nothing canned, nothing frozen) and lover of wild life; often describing her travel and Safari to Kenya, Africa as the best adventure of her life.
The Family will be receiving friends and family at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill, assisted living community, 73 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Norwalk, CT on Sunday, March 1, from 1:00 – 3:00. Internment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions in Pat's name can be made to: The Westport Public Library, 20 Jesup Road, Westport, CT 06880
