Patricia M. Messina (Patti) of Bridgeport, CT passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 peacefully at home at the age of 93. She was the loving wife of the late Edward A. Messina, Sr.
Patti was born in Bridgeport to the late Carl and Mae Burns D'Louhy and graduated from Stratford High School. She was also predeceased by three brothers: Carl D'Louhy, Robert D'Louhy and Sidney D'louhy.
Patti was a force who spoke her mind and tried to use it to better the lives of others around her. Whether she was walking the corridors of Bridgeport City Hall, attending civic meetings or taking on a letter-writing campaign in the local papers, Patti was always there fighting for a better quality of life in her City and State.
A talented artist, Patti was a published poet, and she shared her thoughts and view of the world through her poetry. It was frustrating in her later years not to be able to see or write well enough to put her words on paper.
Patti is survived by her beloved sons, Edward A. Messina, Jr. and his wife Anne of Trumbull, and Richard A. Messina and his husband Peter Lyddy of Sarasota, FL. Also surviving is a daughter, Gail Riccitelli of Branford; a sister, Sally Valiante of Norwalk; 6 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In 2000 Patti had the pleasure of having a star in the universe named for her. So, sometimes when you look above you might just catch that twinkle in Patti's Irish Eyes.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Church, 395 Anton St., Bridgeport, CT. Interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT to follow.
