Philip Crosby Obituary

Crosby, Philip E.
Philip E. Crosby of Stratford passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on February 25, 2013, after a long illness. Born in Kings Mountain, N.C., he was one of eight children of George and Ada Crosby. At the age of 18, Phil moved to Connecticut where he discovered his passion for barbering and began his career that spanned more than six decades before his retirement in 2012. At one time, he was the proprietor of the South End Barber Shop in Bridgeport and Phil's House of Cuts in Ansonia. Later, he owned Carter's on Stratford Avenue where his customers will remember him for his generosity and kindness to them.
Among his many accomplishments, Phil studied art at Shaw University in North Carolina, served in the Korean War and later with the National Guard. He supported his wife's involvement with The Milford, CT Chapter of The Links, Incorporated by being a Connecting Link and previously served on the Stratford Town Committee.
A truly gentle man, Phil was a lover of jazz, art, golf, basketball, and his family. He was a father figure and role model to his grandsons who will miss him always. Left to honor his memory are his wife, Elene Marshall Crosby of Stratford, his daughter, Felicia Coble and her husband Thomas of Oxford, grandsons Theodore B. Miller, III and his fiancé Traci Barnell of Stratford, Grant Miller of Chicago, IL, Vaun Coble Sr. and wife, Kicha of Bridgeport ,CT and Kevon Coble of Dunnesville,VA, brothers Dr. DeNorris Crosby and his wife Lillie B. of Monroe, LaVaughn Crosby of Bridgeport, sister Eleanor Turner of New Haven, sisters-in-law Linda Faye Dowell and her husband Ralph of Huntington, Picardy Marshall of Stratford, Joe Ann Shipp and her husband Adolphus of Byhalia, MS, Sandra Johnson, Holly Springs, MS and several nieces and nephews.
