AUNTIE DOT AND FAMILY,

BEING THE OLDEST GRANDCHILD, MY MEMORIES GO BACK ALITTLE FURTHER.

I CAN REMEBER A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS WHEN MY UNCLE RAY AND ALL THE OTHER FINCHES USE TO COME TO OUR HOUSE ON CHRISTMAS EVE AND DECORATE OUR TREE SO THAT ON CHRISTMAS MORNING I THOUGHT SANTA HAD DONE IT. ONE YEAR BEING THE ONLY ONE MY UNCLE RAY GAVE TO ME SOMETHING EVERY LITTLE GIRL WANTED. A TONI DOLL, SHE WAS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL AND NATURALLY I DESTROYED HER. SHE WOUND UP BALD BUT I STILL HAVE HER.

I CAN REMEMBER MY UNCLE RAY RUNNING

HIS HEART OUT IN LEFT FIELD TO MAKE A CATCH THAT LEFT EVERYONE THERE BREATHLESS. THIS FEAT TOOK PLACE JUST ABOUT EVERY NIGHT AFTER MY DAD AND UNCLE RAY LEFT BULLARDS. MANY A NIGHT WE SPENT AND SEASIDE PARK AND WENT FIELD MARVELING AT THE TALENT OF THE FINCH BROTHERS. BUT HONESTLY RAY WAS ALWAYS THE FUNNY ONE. HE COULD MAKE YOU LAUGH NO MATTER WHAT

THE SITUATION, HE ALWAYS SAW THE HUMOR. HOW COULD YOU FORGET OXOBOXO

IT WAS ABOUT ONE IN THE MORNING AND UNCLE RAY DECIDED TO TAKE A DIP. NO ONE KNEW HE WAS GONE. ALL OF A SUDDEN YOU HEAR SOME ONE SINGING THE INDIAN LOVE CALL AND THERE HE WAS SITTING IN A INNERTUBE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE WITH HIS SAILOR HAT ON SINING HIS HEART OUT. THERE WERE MANY OTHER TIMES, LIKE SIMON SAYS. THE MEMORIES GO ON AND ON. HE

WOULD ALWAYS BE THE ONE TO START A HEATED DISCUSSION AND BACK OFF AND WATCH; LAUGHING AT THE WAY HE SET THEM UP. MY UNCLE RAY WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED LOVINGLY. HE ONLY CAME TO OUR HOUSE IN FLORIDA ONCE BUT IT WAS A TIME I WILL TREASURE.

I ONLY WISH MY FAMILY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW HIM LIKE I DID.

HEY DORT, I CAN JUST HEAR THEM IN HEAVEN, STUMPY PLAYING THE GUITAR AND MY MOM SINGING THE BATTLE HYMN OF THE REPUBLIC, WITH UNCLE RAY DIRECTING. THEY'LL PROBABLY WIND UP IN THE LAKE. THOSE WERE TRULY THE TIMES THAT FORMED OUR LIVES.

IF YOU LOOK AT UNCLE RAY'S LEGACY, NO WOULD ARGUE THAT HE WAS TRULY A

VERY RICH MAN.

LOVE TO ALL, MURPH

Pops was much more than a loving grandpa. He was a friend, confidant, and your greatest supporter. He was a giant kid at heart and he would never miss a change to play goofy games with all his grandchildren. You will be in my thoughts forever and I will never forget the good times that we had together.

I love you and you will be missed tremendously.

What can I say about Uncle Ray?

He was, by far, the funniest man I ever met. He never told a bad joke and lit up a room with his wit, until the day he entered heaven. And he's probably making people roll in the aisles now!

I always say that its better to leave this life with a sense of humor than to not have a sense of humor at all.

One of my funniest and happiest memories of Uncle Ray was in Disney World, years ago with a large group of our relatives. I was at the "I'm sooo embarrassed" age and Uncle Ray knew it and loved it!! Throughout the park he'd yell, "SOUND OFF!" Everyone had to shout their assigned number to be sure we were all present and accounted for (adults and children). You'd hear him yell again, louder, "MARY CATE...I CAN"T HEAR YOU...WHAT NUMBER ARE YOU?" I was "sooooo embarrassed."

Although I could have crawled into a garbage can at that time, I am so grateful for the happy and fun memories every time we spent vacation with Uncle Ray.

I was fortunate to have Uncle Ray read at my wedding (good thing he wasn't too embarrassed!), and add his own blessing at the end, from a small prayer card that he gave me to keep.

Thank you Uncle Ray for being such a wonderful Uncle. You will be missed more than words can say.

One of the greatest blessings in my life was marrying into the Finch family. Not only was Ray a wonderful father-in-law, but he was a terrific grandfather, and our children are so fortunate to have had him in their lives. Thank you, Pops, for all the good times over the years, especially at the holidays, but most of all, thank you for a great son who only could have learned to love his family so deeply as by your example. I love you, and I will miss you immensely.

Auntie Dot and Her Wonderful Family:

"Hold the Fort Dort", I can still hear him calling. His sense of humor will always be my fondest memory. His devotion to God and country but especially to his family,he loved and treasured them dearly. Even though we are still in CT, he knows how much he meant to us. I will never forget the fond memories of my child hood and going to Chickies and Rays every Sunday. Those were the good old days. He is in heaven now with his brother, brother in-law, sister-in-law and mother, he is in God's good hands. I will miss him dearly! My childeren will always remember their "Uncle Ray". Love to all!

To the man who puts the full meaning into the word grandfather. Pops was such a wonderful man. He was genuine, kind, and most of all funny. If you were every feeling down Pops was just the man to bring a smile to your face. I know Pops is in a better place watching over us and keeping us safe. He's the best angle any of us could have. I just wanted to say thanks for everything and I love you POPS.

Jackie and I visited Ray and "Dort" about 5 yrs. ago, my first ever trip to AZ. One morning, amazingly, I was up before Ray, so to get brownie points, I put out the flag for him, part of his morning ritual. By the time Ray got up, it had started to rain. "Who put my flag out in the rain?!" he shouted. I thought he was joking, but he wasn't. The US flag was as important to him as was his family. His love of his country so impressed me that day, and when 9/11 happened and the flags all came out, my first thought was of Ray. God bless him.

I'm the one married to Red Wilson's boy. How we wish we could be with everyone this week. Uncle Ray's gentleness and humor will be sadly missed, but I will forever hear his voice with a slightly impatient lilt saying, "Dorothy!" Know our hearts are with you, even if our voices cannot be.

My body is in Connecticut, but my heart is in Arizona. How fortunate we were to be there in February. We'll all miss his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. What a role model!

God couldn't wait for Ray any longer. He was truly special.

Love to all of you,

Paula

My heart goes out to the Finch family. I don't have the right words to express how wonderful it was to spend time together with Ray and Dot. And just watching Ray with everyone, he lit up a room. Thinking of you more than ever. All my love, Erin.

Not having a father of my own growing up, there were a select few men I felt like were my "substitute dads". Ray was one of them. Besides being a great influence and a funny guy he was a heck of a lot of fun to be around. I wish I had told him how much he meant to me while I was a teenager. Oh, I guess I could have done without the meal that he tried to sneak horsemeat in on us. Ray was as good as they get.

All my love,

Tom Schrader

I will never forget the "original Ray" of Ray, Ray-Ray, and Ray-Ray-Ray. His stories about the old days in Bridgeport are memories I treasure. Such a kind, and funny man...I will miss you, Ray.

Ray was the kind of person all others aspire to be. He was generous and kind, always placing others needs before his own. Who can forget his wacky sense of humor? To me he was much more that just a wonderful father in-law, grandfather and great grandfather. I’m proud to say he was also my friend. He will be missed but not forgotten.
