Richard (Dick) Stanley Bull
Richard (Dick) Stanley Bull, age 90, of Hudson, OH, and Venice, FL, originally from Trumbull, CT, passed away on January 31, 2025. He was born on September 18, 1934, in Bridgeport, CT, to the late Dorothy (née Bloomer) and Stanley Bull.
Dick is survived and missed by his loving wife of 30 years, Patricia (Pat) Bull (née Pohl), and his children, Jeffrey (Jayne) Bull, Beth Anne (Gregg) Martin, and Christopher Bull. He is forever cherished and remembered by his five grandchildren, Ashley (Brandon), Alexandra, Jessica, Tyler, and Connor. He is also survived by Pat's three children: Thomas Franco, Alice (Christopher) McCann, and James (Robin) Franco; as well as their children: Guiliana, Gabriella, Jake, and Kristen. He also leaves behind the mother of his children, Jacquelyn Dempsey (née Gill), and numerous close friends, both near and far in Connecticut, Ohio, and Florida. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Dorothy; father, Stanley; stepfather, James McKeon; and sister, Susan Kiley (née Bull).
Dick grew up in Fairfield County, CT. He was a graduate of UConn, with a degree in business and was a proud member of the Air Force ROTC. Upon graduation in 1957, he became an officer in the Air Force and served as a T38 jet pilot. After honorably serving his country, he embarked on a nearly thirty-year career at Clairol. After retiring, he and Pat split their time as residents of both Hudson, OH and Venice, FL.
Above all, he was a beloved, proud father and loving husband, who always put his family first. Some of his many interests included coaching youth sports, gardening, cooking, biking, relaxing at the beach, and watching UConn's men's and women's basketball teams. Additionally, Dick and Pat were fond of the arts, spending time patronizing the outdoor Cleveland Orchestra in the summer and the Venice Symphony during the winter. They were fortunate to be able to enjoy traveling to many wonderful places after their retirement and especially enjoyed riverboat trips in Europe! Always an avid outdoorsman and active man, he biked the Venice Legacy Trail at the age of 86. Through the years and miles apart, Dick always enjoyed staying connected with his children and grandchildren, often hosting them in his Hudson and Venice homes. Family members fondly remember him at the stove or grill cooking his famous spaghetti sauce and "Grandpa's chicken". He was also a devoted dog lover and owner throughout his life. Dick and Pat were dedicated members of Grace Episcopal Church in Trumbull, CT, where they volunteered and enjoyed the fellowship for many years. They later became church members at congregations in Hudson, OH, and Venice, FL.
Richard Bull will be dearly missed by all who loved him. Family members take solace in the fact that he was a man of faith and will be welcomed into Heaven. He will be memorialized by family in the two places he spent the last decades of his life, Hudson and Venice. His remains will be interred at Sarasota National Cemetery, a dedicated space for veterans. A church memorial service will be held in Hudson, OH, at a later date.
