Richard Hoyt Obituary

Richard Hoyt
Richard Hoyt, 79, beloved husband of Janet Hoyt, passed away on Feb. 18, 2022. He was predeceased by his mother, Frances (Sunny) Hoyt and father, Richard H. Hoyt.
A longtime resident of Easton, Dick graduated from Westminster School and Yale University. He had a fierce love and loyalty for his family, friends ( both the two-legged and four-legged variety) and to his employees at The Chapin & Bangs Co.

He made everyone feel valued because they were. Dick navigated life with remarkable humor, intelligence and perspective. He has the undying admiration of his family and friends. Unbeknownst to many, he had an enduring fondness for Rachmaninoff's Vespers.
Dick was active in several community activities over many years. Most recently, he served as a director of People's United Bank in Bridgeport. He had been on the board of the Yale New Haven Health Systems, as well as, a director of Bridgeport Hospital for many years. He served on the board of the YMCA including Camp Hi-Rock mortgage club. He also served on the board of the Lakeview Cemetery Association.

Mr. Hoyt was a longtime customer where I worked, though we might have seen him a handful of times or less a year. Regardless, he was quite unforgettable, always arriving with a genuine smile. Over many years, through conversations, usually brief but always enlightening, I came to realize the depth of his integrity and sense of ethical responsibility, as a businessman and a citizen of his city, state, country and world. Our last chat was the longest, in 2021; I was unaware of his illness as he shared his thoughts about his moral obligations to his employees during the uniquely challenging COVID era. Compassion he did not lack.

When I heard of his passing, one simple thought came to mind: We lost one of the "good ones". Let us all remember the examples set by the rare ones such as him. My deepest condolences to those closest to his heart.

To a very special person & Human Being

From time to time there appear on the face of the earth men of rare and consummate excellence, who dazzle us by their virtue, and whose outstanding qualities shed a stupendous light. Like those extraordinary stars of whose origins we are ignorant, and of whose fate, once they have vanished, we know even less, such men have neither forebears nor descendants: they are the whole of their race.
