Richard Murphy Obituary
Richard D. Murphy, age 76, of Stratford, beloved husband of Suzanne Mitnik Murphy, passed away on July 30, 2021 in Bridgeport Hospital. Richard was born in Bridgeport on October 16, 1944 to the late Thomas and Mary (Duff) Murphy and had been a lifelong area resident. He was graduate of Notre Dame High School, Bridgeport class of 1962, and earned both bachelor's and master's degrees from Fairfield University. Richard was retired from Stratford High School where he taught math for 39 years. Survivors in addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, include his devoted siblings, Carolyn M. Agoglia of Stratford, and John C. Murphy of Torrington, 3 nephews, James Agoglia, and Jonathan and Joshua Murphy. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by his niece, Luani Agoglia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 5th at 11 a.m. meeting directly at Our Lady of Grace Church, 497 Second Hill Lane Stratford. Due to the rising Covid-19 concerns, masks will be required at Our Lady of Grace. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. My deepest condolences, I first met Mr. Murphy in September of 1983 when I joined his Home Room. In the two years that I was there, he always made me feel a part of class. I have never forgotten him, and always think about him when ever I get a doughnut on Friday.

Mr Murphy was our counselor for the student council. I graduated in 1971 and he helped me with the Thanksgiving drive and assembly Always took the time for his students. Condolences to the family.

Sincere sympathy to Sue and to Dick´s family.
While I have not seen Dick for many years because we live in different parts of the country, I have the fondest memories of our friendship.
I have known Dick for most of his almost 77 years. He was 4 days younger than me, and when we were 2 years old we played together at the Huntington Apartments on North Main Street in Bridgeport. We later attended Fairfield U together, carpooling for 4 years. Dick was an enthusiastic member of Fairfield´s award winning Glee Club.
Sue and Dick dedicated their lives to educating the next generation, a worthy but not always easy calling.
I am deeply saddened to learn of Dick´s passing and send my sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Sue.

So sorry for your loss. Mr Murphy was my high school Math teacher in 12th grade and he was an absolute gem. Kind heart and always wanted to help me do well in school. I hope you have peace in knowing that he was a great teacher and showed kindness to others.

Dear Sue, Paula and I are deeply saddened by the news of Dick's passing. I was a childhood neighbor, colleague and friend for many years. Dick was the most energetic and enthusiastic teacher I ever knew at S.H.S.
