Robert Allan "Bob" Grillo

Robert Grillo Obituary

GRILLO Robert Allan "Bob" Grillo of New Bern, N.C., died Monday, September 7, 2009 at Carolina East Medical Center. He was born in Bridgeport, May 19, 1941. Bob was well loved by all who knew him, especially the children in his neighborhood to whom he was known as "Mr. Bob." He was thought of as a grandfather to many. He was always ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or sit and talk when advice was needed. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and loved his country. He proudly raised his flag every morning. He spent many happy hours outdoors, especially in his garden. He was loving, caring, strong and reassuring with a great sense of humor, a lover of life and a man of strong faith. Those of us lucky enough to be a part of his life will never forget his infectious laugh, beautiful singing voice, and his strong comforting hugs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Faye Green Grillo, and a brother, Larry Grillo and is survived by his wife of 44 years, Josi Grillo; two daughters, Lee Ann Grillo of Denver Colo. and Jackie Grillo of New Bern, N.C.; two brothers, Joe Grillo of Trumbull and Hugh Grillo, Jr., and his wife, Sue of Beacon Falls; three sisters, Pat DeGenova and her husband, Jerry, of Lordship, Marilyn Lattanzi of Monroe, and Ginny Grillo of Trumbull; his uncle and aunt, Frank and Jean Grillo of Trumbull; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held today at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, with Fr. Paul Mizener officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations in Bob's name be made to the American Cancer Society, 930-B Wellness Drive, Greenville, NC 27834. Condolences may be made to the Grillo family at www.cottenfuneralhome.com. The Cotten Funeral Home of North Carolina is in charge of arrangements.

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. When we were in Bassick High, we spoke about joining the Air Force. Evidently he did and so did I. Had he been able to make our 50th class reunion on September 12th, I'm sure he would have enjoyed himself. My sincerest condolences to the family.

Dear Josie, Bob was always so kind to my son, David, who was under Bob's supervision at EA for a short time. David has Down Syndrome and Bob's patience was remarkable. I too, worked with Bob and will always remember him as a kind and wonderful person.

We are both so sorry for your loss.

Regards,
Marilyn D'Andrea

Josi, Lee Ann and Jackie,

I worked for and with your husband/dad at State National Bank/CBT from August 1976 until September 1985 -- he was a wonderful person. He was truly a family man; he loved his wife Josephine (as I knew her then), and his face would light up on the rear occasion that she would bring Lee Ann and Jackie to the office to see him. Shortly after I left the bank we lost contact, but I would always remember Bob as a friendly, respectful, caring gentleman. It doesn't surprise me to read that he was so well liked.

The thoughts and prayers of my family go out to you during this time of sorrow.

My condolences for your loss, Bob was a wonderful man I would have liked to have gone to his service but having lost my daughter this time last year I have been going through my own sorrow. Bob was quite a singer he would go around the shop singing and it would bring a smile. His on the spur of the moment visits will be missed.
