When I was growing up in the USA, I had the great good fortune to be a student of Mr Capobianco's way back in 1964-65 as a student at the Middlebrook Junior High School. He will forever stand out in my mind as a truly great teacher, full of enthusiasm and dynamism, vivaciousness and commitment, who made history come alive and instilled in us a lifelong passion for current events. He clearly enjoyed tremendous popularity with the student body on the whole for all that he stood for, coupled to the fact that he was always approachable, ready to listen, to comfort, to counsel. As I live on the other side of the globe, I have only just learnt of his passing, and would like to extend my condolences to his family members who must miss him sorely. I shall continue to remember him with the greatest respect and fondness.

Mr Capobianco was the best teacher I ever had, He made history interesting, fun and gave me my first taste of what politics was about. We loved his stories and his special interest. He took me to opening day Yankee Staduim 1965. A very special man and teacher to anyone who had time with him. He is sorely missed. God blessed all of you to have such a wonderful father and grandfather.

Mr. Capobianco was the greatest teacher/mentor/friend for me and a group of about half a dozen other boys at Hillcrest Junior High in the mid-70s. We not only took his wonderful US history class, but regularly wandered into his office during lunchtime to shoot the breeze, played basketball with him at open rec, and went to Yankee games with him courtesy of his VW Beetle. Mr. C was hands-down our favorite grown-up. We all are saddened to hear of his passing, but are grateful to have experienced his warmth, guidance and friendship. Mr. C was a huge part of our lives, may he rest in peace.

I'll always remember Roger's great sense of humor and all the teasing he took from all of us who worked with him at Madison. It was a pleasure being on the same academic team with him for so many years. You will be greatly missed, Rog.

To the entire Capobianco family; it deeply saddened me to read about Mr C's passing. He was absolutely my favorite teacher at Middlebrook jr high...way back when. I do believe it was his first year teaching! He had a huge impact on my life...many years after, two of my children also had him as a teacher at Madison...he inspired my daughter to love history, and to become a teacher. We will always keep him in our hearts and memories. Thank you Mr Capobianco. With love, Ginger Caserta Mullin, Rob Mullin and Paisley Mullin Bennett ❤❤

Roger and Kathy were my favorite teachers in 7th grade at Middlebrook JH. It was Kathy's first year teaching and I adored her. Roger was just hands down a terrific teacher. I spent hours after school with them. The next year i was thrilled to be one of the first to know of their engagement and was invited to their wedding. I pray that your faith and your memories sustain you in your loss. Roger and Kathy were the best.

To Kate, Chris and Sara,
There are no words to describe the emotions that I feel from a memory that I have had from over 30 years ago, but I will try. As a kid, your father was one of my parents best friends. There wasn't a year that went by back then when we didn't see the Caps at least once every two months, I could be wrong. And I remember how compassionate your parents were in taking in us for sleep overs and wish I could remember the name of the girl they took in every summer to spend time in the country, to get out of the city for awhile. All good stuff. Your father will always be a part of my memories from my past and childhood, which is why I needed to say all of this. My prayers are with you and I am so sorry for your loss. I can only hope you will all be ok to move forward and know that your dad is with your mom again and in peace . That is what I am hoping and pray for. Again so sorry George

Sitting here with tears in my eyes after reading this sad news. Mr. Capobianco was absolutely my favorite teacher ever. I was very shy and quiet and he put me on the debate team for a class project and gave me a role in our mock murder trial. Although I wasn't happy about either role, even then I understood why he had given them to me. He truly made learning a joy and he was a true gift to Hillcrest and those of us who were lucky to have him as a teacher. My deepest condolences to his family.
