Ronald Knox Obituary

Ronald Knox
September 24, 2021
Ronald Anthony Knox, age 78 of Bethany, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning, September 24, 2021.
Ron was the proprietor of Books by the Falls in Derby for over 35 years, one of Connecticut's oldest independent antiquarian bookstores. Ron studied philosophy at Columbia and was a poet, bibliophile and nature lover. He was a quiet and fun inspiration to all those who wandered into his bookshop seeking some guidance, entertainment or just plain adventure. His friends and family will remember him for his wit, wisdom and twinkle in his eyes that mirrored the glistening waterfalls nearby.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Lorraine Braden-Knox of Bethany, his daughter, Dana Knox-Gower of Southbury, his three sons, Gary Anthony Knox of Torrington, Ryan Anthony Knox of New Haven and Anthony Nicholas Knox of Gallipolis, Ohio, his sister, Linda Buturla of Voluntown, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will hold private services in celebration of his life.

I´ve known Ron since he first opened Books By The Falls and I was one of his very first employees there when there was just a couple of book cases in the front room. Ron was a great friend and colleague and his passing leaves an empty place in my heart. Rest In Peace with the books and angels, Ron.

Ron was the gently provocative wit and philosopher in our Genesis group, which he founded. I hold him dear in my heart, having known him for decades. Ron is a treasured friend, not to be forgotten. Polly (5)

Ron was a direct inspiration for my own ongoing book collection and opened my mind to many writers. I have many wonderful memories of working in the past at Books By the Falls, and meeting many interesting people who visited. It was always fun and interesting to talk with him, and amazingly, he knew where everything was in that store! I'm thinking about him now up in that heavenly bookstore with its countless volumes, and wishing peace to all his family.
