Ronald Verrilli Obituary

Ronald J. Verrilli
December 26, 1939 - April 6, 2025
Ronald J. Verrilli, 85, of Orange, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at Maplewood at Orange. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, entrepreneur, businessman, sailor, teacher, mentor, and friend. Ronald, known as "Ron," was born in Bridgeport, CT, on December 26, 1939, to the late Joseph and Mary (Gabriel) Verrilli. Following the death of his mother when he was just 2 years old, his late Aunt Florence and Uncle Rocco Verrilli of Bridgeport played a significant role in his upbringing.
Ron attended public school in Bridgeport and later graduated from the University of Bridgeport with a degree in Accounting. While in college, he met the love of his life, Joan Meyers, also from Bridgeport. They married on November 16, 1962, and enjoyed 62 wonderful years together. During their marriage, they lived in Stratford, Trumbull (Pinewood Lake), Stamford (Dolphin Cove), Milford, and Orange before moving into Maplewood at Orange in 2021.
Ron was ahead of his time; rather than staying with a single company throughout his career, he worked for numerous firms in accounting, finance, and management roles. His career included positions at T.M. Byxbee, Price Waterhouse, Baldwin Technology, Oak Management, Bridgeport Hydraulic, G.E. Capital, ACR (American Computer Resources), Sonics Materials, and many others. His professional journey took him across the United States and to several European countries. His wife and children often accompanied him on these adventures.
Ron also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve from 1961 to 1967.
In addition to his professional achievements, Ron had many hobbies. He enjoyed building and launching rockets, flying remote-controlled airplanes, designing elaborate train sets, photography, videography, coin and stamp collecting, and more. However, his greatest passion, apart from his family, was sailing. He dedicated himself to becoming an excellent sailor and loved cruising the sound with family and friends on his prized 29' Catalina sailboat. For about ten years, Ron and Joan also owned the former Long Island Sound Sailing School in Stratford, CT.
Despite his many hobbies, Ron was a devoted attendee at his children's and grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, concerts, and school functions. He and Joan were always their biggest fans!
In addition to his wife, Joan, Ron is survived by his daughters, Susan Verrilli Dutilh of Orange, CT, and Elizabeth Verrilli (Gary) Depgen of Shelton, CT. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jane Depgen of Brooklyn, NY, Jack Depgen of Brooklyn, NY, and Ari Dutilh of Orange, CT. He also leaves behind five nieces, including Maria Alpert of Greenwich, CT, with whom he shared a special bond and friendship.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Maplewood at Orange, Connecticut Hospice, and Ms. Bernadette Cyrus of Visiting Angels for the exceptional care they provided to Ron. No services will be held; however, a memorial for Ron will be held at the family's convenience.
Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice or the Dementia Society of America.

My deepest condolences to Ron's entire family. I was one of the external accountants for Sonics when Ron worked there and have a lot of nice memories of our conversations. He really knew his accounting and was a great guy also.
