Sally Burns Obituary

Sally Burns
Sally Burns, 87 of Fairfield, the beloved wife of the late John Francis Burns, passed away peacefully at her home on December 17, 2023. She was born in Bridgeport to the late Samuel and Edith (Mills) Hydis and was a longtime resident of Fairfield.
After graduating from Roger Ludlowe High School, she met the love of her life and they wed in 1955. Initially she was a stay-at-home mom dedicating her life to family, always there when needed for her husband and children, parents, brothers, as well as extended family and friends. Later in life, she worked at Skydel's department store and Stillson Pharmacy, before retiring from CVS as a pharmacy technician.
She loved to cook and was especially known for her homemade apple pies, St. Patrick's Day corned beef dinners and Sunday meals with pot roast, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy. She was an avid UCONN women's basketball and New York Yankees fan and a longtime member of the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling to many US parks with family and multiple trips abroad with her husband and lifelong friends, Diane and Bob Ulmer.
Sally is survived by her loving children, Thomas Burns and his wife Lori of Fairfield and Sandra Librandi and her husband Christopher of Milford. She will also be missed by her grandchildren, Danielle Librandi and her husband Michael Hamilton, Paige and Alexandra Librandi, Jack Burns, as well as her great-grandchildren, Frankie and Cameron. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brothers, Jack and Edward Hydis.
Sally was the foundation of our family, an amazing mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend to so many. We will miss her terribly. There's a hole in our hearts, but we feel comfort knowing she's now with loved ones who have gone before her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St Pius X Church in Fairfield followed by a private interment in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.

I´ve known Sally for many years. We worked together at Stillson Pharmacy and CVS. We kept our friendship even after she retired. We got together for lunch with others we worked with. Will miss her smile.

I have many fond memories of growing up with Sally Hydis-we used to ride our bikes all around Fairfield center and Sally always had a big smile. In later years, we even married guys who worked together and in later years, I even had Sally´s daughter in class at Andrew Warde.
Sally-always a smile and sunny disposition.
