Sharon Ann Powers, age 73, of Norwalk, formerly of New Canaan, died peacefully on Sunday December 3, 2017 with her loving son, Michael at her side. Born in Norwalk, October 20, 1944 she was the daughter of the late George and Phyllis Iannacone Paglialungo. Sharon was formerly married to the late James Edward Powers.
Sharon lived in New Canaan during the earlier years of her life and attended nursing school after graduating from New Canaan High School. Shortly after obtaining her nursing degree, Sharon began a three decade career helping others as a registered nurse which concluded with her retiring from Stamford Hospital in 2005. During her free time, Sharon loved to create new adventures while traveling to new and exciting places - whether that destination be White Water Rafting on the Colorado River, traveling The Amalfi Coast in Italy, or relaxing on the beaches of Barbados. She was devoted to her pets. Above all, Sharon loved her family dearly. She cherished the quiet times and holiday celebrations.
Sharon is survived by her identical twin sons Michael Powers of Woodbridge, CT and Matthew Powers and his wife Meredith, of Raleigh, NC; one sister Marie Paglialungo of Lexington, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Jessica Lauren Powers of Raleigh; as well many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, December 8, at Hoyt Funeral Home, 199 Main St., New Canaan. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 9, at St. Aloysius Church, 21 Cherry St., New Canaan. Interment to follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan.
