Sophiann Oliwa Obituary
Sophiann Oliwa, age 102, of Derby, beloved wife of the late Walter J. Oliwa, died peacefully on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She is survived by her devoted children: Walter Oliwa, Louis Oliwa, Janet Binkowski, and Ron Oliwa, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild. Friends are invited to greet Sophiann's family on Tuesday, September 12, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the Edward F. Adzima Funeral Home, 253 Elizabeth St., Derby. Her funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 75 Derby Ave., Derby. Her burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Ansonia. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.adzimafh.com .

My sincere condolences to all of Sophiann´s family and friends. I have thought of her often over the years and marveled at her long and interesting life. Love to all of you. I miss my Derby family.

My Dear Oliwa Cousins,
Losing our moms is an unparalleled event for which we´re never fully prepared, no matter our ages, so I´m glad you all have each other and got to have the remarkable woman who was your mother in your lives for so long.
In addition to what´s been written, my A. Sophie was also a caring daughter and sister, as evidenced by the trips you´d make to visit Babci and Donny. She was loved by each of her brothers and friends with their wives, all of whom she kept up with after the men had passed, taking the long, solo ride to N.B.
A terrific cook and homemaker, she helped keep the extended family together over the years by hosting family picnics. I have fond memories of those gatherings with the palpable love, joy, and joking between the Haze siblings of her generation to whom she was "Sis."
I appreciate that you all came in solidarity when my mom passed, over five years ago now. Having just moved out of state, I won´t be with you for her services, but Charlie and I will be thinking of all of you on Tuesday and will be with you in spirit.
RIP, A. Sophie. I´ll always think of you as a woman of tremendous strength.

I am offering my condolences to the members of Sophiann's family. I hold fond memories of her maintaining the grounds around her home when I would visit the Dziuba family. Age was not a prohibitive. And then at Falcon events where we worked together on the house committee. While I will not be able to attend her services, know that she will be remembered in my prayers.
