Sotirios Papadopoulos
Sotirios (Sam) Papadopoulos age 75 of Shelton, loving husband of 49 years to Vasilika (Bessie) Vassil Papadopoulos passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. Born in Kavala, Greece, he was the son of the late Theoharis and Angelika Paraskevi Papadopoulos.
Sam came to the United States in 1971. He fell in love with Bessie and married her in 1972. Prior to his retirement, He worked for Electric Maintenance Services in Black Rock as a lead industrial motor repair man for 41 years. His greatest moments were outside of work. He was a member of the St George's League, a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, where he volunteered many hours at the Olympiad festivals and Athletic League. As an avid bowler, he spent many years on the duckpin bowling league. He loved being with his family and especially his grandchildren, watching them play sports, face timing with them in the evening, telling stories and making them laugh. He enjoyed casino trips with Bessie and friends, playing cards, and cooking lamb on the spit. He was quick witted and always handled things with grace and humor.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his daughter Dina Pisacreta and husband Sam of Shelton; his sons Theo Papadopoulos, and girlfriend Alexandra Kachoulas of Seymour and Jimmie Papadopoulos and wife Jennifer of Shelton; his brother Antonis Papadopoulos and wife Angeliki of Kavala, Greece; his grandchildren, Angelo and Samantha Pisacreta, Riley and Demi Papadopoulos, Jordan and Niko Papadopoulos, a niece and a nephew.
The Rite of Burial will be held on Monday August 30, 2021 at 10am in Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 4070 Park Avenue, Bridgeport with Fr. Nicholas Dassouras and co-celebrant Deacon Anastasios officiating, followed by interment in St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Calling hours will take place on Sunday from 4 to 7pm at the Commerce Hill Funeral Home, 4798 Main St. Bridgeport with Trisagion Service starting at 5pm in the funeral home. The family requests that masks be worn during all services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in memory of Sam.
