Thomas Lattanzio Obituary

Thomas J. Lattanzio
Thomas J. Lattanzio of Bridgeport, CT formerly of Rocky Hill, Police Officer with the Bridgeport Police Department for 17 years, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 4, 2017. Tom was born in Hartford and was the son of Gino and Lorraine Lattanzio. He was predeceased by his father in 2001. Tom is survived by his mother Lorraine, a sister and brother-in-law, Laura J. and Richard McNamara and three nieces, Lia, Jenna and Caitlee and many cousins, aunts and uncles. For as long as anyone can remember Tommy always wanted to become a police officer. His fellow officers knew this fact and after 17 years, Tommy stayed dedicated, passionate and above all professional from the top of his hat to the tip of his shined shoes. He "always did the right thing" and was "the epitome of a good cop." Tommy worked undercover in some of Connecticut's worst neighborhoods. One particular assignment that was expected to last a few months lasted nearly two years since Tommy excelled in this capacity. He loved the group environment that being on the narcotics team entailed and was a "joy to have around the office." Tommy was a very humble and proud man who always put the team and job first before his own needs. Tommy took pride in dedicating his life to helping people that could not help themselves. Tommy was generous, caring and would often check in with his fellow officers (friends) on their wellbeing to ask if they needed anything. He loved books, animals, music and was an avid concert goer. He possessed a strong compassion for animals, taking in strays as his own or trying to rehome them to friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made in Tommy's name to the Bridgeport Connecticut Animal Control, 236 Evergreen St., Bridgeport, CT 203-576-7727 [email protected]. Friends may pay their respects from 9:00 – 12:00, Thursday December 14, 2017 at the Farley-Sullivan Funeral Home, 34 Beaver Rd., Wethersfield. A Memorial Service celebrating Tom's life will be at noon in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Saint Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Road, Bloomfield. Tommy will be remembered for being "a great guy with a huge heart." The BPD suffered a profound loss and "he will never be forgotten by his brothers and sisters in blue."

Growing up in a Police family, I have learned that brothers become family, coworkers become family, even friends become family. Tommy, I am truly sorry I never got the honor or privilege to meet you or get to know you. From the stories I have heard from your fellow brothers and sisters in blue, you were an amazing officer. Gave the job 110% of your efforts and were proud to wear our uniform. There was a time when you worked for my Dad. When I asked him about you, he spoke extremely highly of you. At my Dads retirement party he gave a speech. In his speech, he spoke o how proud he was to wear the uniform when it came time to go to work. We may have never met, but it hurts to know I will not be able to meet you. Rest easy Tommy.

When me and my brother got into a hit and run, Officer Lattanzio was the responding officer to the call. I did not know him on a personal level but I consider any Bridgeport police officer a part of my family because my dad was a Bridgeport Detective. I burst into tears at work when I found out it was him who passed. When he showed up to my house my brother him and I stood outside my house for almost 2 hours talking. We talked about what my brother and I wanted to do with our futures, we talked about calls he went on. He even taught us (just to be funny) how to steal motorcycles from outside a bar at night without getting caught. He was a great man. He will be dearly missed. He changed my life that day. He made me feel welcomed into the Bridgeport PD family and I haven't even been through the academy yet. My condolences to his family.

"LITTLE TOM" BOGUS

December 11, 2017

Tom, Growing up you were my big brother. Always taking time to throw the football with the "little" neighbor. As a freshman having a senior watching my back meant alot, it's also when you started taking me to concerts. I remember New Haven,Worchester, Hartford, and the Agoura. So many good times, you told my mom we were going to the movies. I told her today where we were, she actually believed you. Later on you would tell me how you had made it through the academy, and how you were going to be in Bridgeport. I was real happy for you, I know how hard you worked and wanted it. Gods Speed My Friend.
THANK YOU, fOR great memories,i will never forget, and for being a friend.
THANK YOU, for letting me be part of your life.

Tommy , I know that you are now realizing how many lives that you made such a profound impact on. I can say that I am very blessed to call you a friend and brother. You carried yourself with honor and respect and always looked your best. You wore that uniform like no one else could , with such respect to that badge and patch you wore so proudly . You work ethic will not be matched and I used to watch and admire your relentless effort while you were at work . You gave every last bit of yourself to people that you didn't know but you protected and served them like they were your own. I will miss you so much and this department will never be the same without you . I will certainly remember your thoughtful gestures and kindness and humility . There are not enough words to express our broken hearts . I will miss you brother until we meet again . Watch out back from up there . Rest easy brother

When I read that Tom was (still) an avid concertgoer, it brought back memories of the Genesis concert that I went to with Tom & my sister Diane & brother David, in Worcester, many years ago. Tom was our driver & I certainly felt that we were all in good hands with him taking charge. My condolences to the Lattanzio family. I will always think of Tom fondly.

You loved your career with a devotion & dedication to the highest degree. Many people go through life without realizing their true passion. You had the chance to fulfill your dreams. You served the City proudly and bravely. Now, rest in peace, Officer. My condolences to the Lattanzio family and to the Brothers & Sisters of BPD.

"Tommy" as we called him, was extremely dedicated to his profession. He worked directly under me in our squad and was always willing to help with anything we asked of him. He was a self motivated Police Officer and I never had to tell him what to do, he knew what was expected and went so far as to exceed my expectations of his duties. He would come to work an hour early sometimes and when he was off he would suit up and wait for an overtime call just in case he got called just to make sure he made it to line up on time because he never wanted to miss a minute on the street. He was extremely passionate for the homeless and animals, feeding them and always offering to help. He was always saying jokes to make us laugh and had such an wonderful compassionate side. He was firm in his duties and took his job very seriously but very proudly as well. Tommy would often give us gifts and it was not unlike him to hand out concert tickets randomly. He was generous beyond belief. I loved him dearly, he was my brother in blue and I will miss him so much forever. It hurts me to the core that I will never get to hear his funny jokes, his laugh or his sincere smile. "Tommy" was truly one of a kind and irreplaceable. There will never be another "Tommy" again, and I will never forget him. I will make sure to honor and remember him through continually telling my favorite stories of him. R.I.P "Tommy", my brother in blue, I love you!
