Toby Knapp Obituary

Toby B. Knapp
April 22, 1951 - Sept. 27, 2021
The brilliant, talented and creative character, Toby B. Knapp, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 70 on Monday, September 27, 2021. Toby was raised in Easton, Connecticut and most recently resided in Southbury, CT. Toby was born on April 22, 1951 to Richmond L. Knapp, Sr and Rosemarie (Osberg) Knapp. Toby attended school in Easton and Joel Barlow High School in Redding. Toby was a gifted artist who attended the Goddard College and Tufts University School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Toby spent many years creating paintings, watercolors, sketches, and sculptures. Toby was also a talented musician playing the guitar, piano, mandolin and violin often at the request of his father when guests arrived at the house. At the same time, he was always fascinated with how things worked and started tinkering with bicycles at first and later cars. At the time of his death, Toby had an active business restoring classic cars and motorcycles in Seymour, CT.
Toby was a passionate person about everything. He deeply loved his family and friends, going out of his way with generosity, kindness, stories, and friendship. He loved books, food, music, art, nature, cats, tortoises, cars, and motorcycles. He went out of his way to help a friend, cheer someone up with food or a fancy car, or perhaps he met your cat who he playfully entertained. One way or another, Toby had a meaningful impact on the people in his life. He has left us an empty space.
Toby was preceded in death by his father, Richmond (Bud) and Rosemarie (Peany) Knapp, his brother, Timothy, and his nephew, Richmond Knapp, III. He is survived by his brother Richmond Knapp, Jr (Terrie) of Park Ridge, Illinois, sister Martha Leonard (Bill) of Avon, CT, niece Carling Harper (Charlie) of Collinsville, CT and his stepmother, Vera Knapp of Imperial, MO. Toby is also survived by several cousins and several members of his step-family.
Services for Toby will be held at 2:00 p.m., October 10, 2021 at The Congregational Church of Easton, 336 Westport Rd., Easton. We welcome any words you would like to share at the service. Please wear a mask.

Toby is the most fascinating person I have ever known.
I had the pleasure of knowing him for several years. I worked on many vehicles with him any spent a lot of hours with him traveling up and down the east coast transporting cars and motorcycles
And no matter where in the country, no matter how far off the beaten path, Toby "knew this great place to eat " !
Toby´s story´s were always remarkable, and his vast knowledge on any subject imaginable always amazed me.
Always there to lend a hand if I needed.
He will truly be missed, I am honored to have been able to call him my friend
