Wayne DeValk Obituary

WAYNE O. DeVALK HARTLAND, MI
Wayne O. DeValk, age 67, of Hartland, MI, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, September 15, 2013. Born in Chicago, IL on March 31, 1946, he was the son of Clarence O. and Nellaine (TerHaar) DeValk. Formerly of Lynwood, IL and a Hartland, MI resident for the past five years, Wayne had been a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hammond, IN. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s degree from the University of Illinois. Wayne taught at Thornwood High School (District 215) in South Holland, IL for 35 years where he also coached football and taught Drivers Ed. He was an avid sportsman, collected HO trains and enjoyed a daily crossword puzzle. Beloved husband of Sharon (Reid) DeValk whom he married in Lansing, IL on September 7, 1968. Loving father of Amy (Kevin) Lakotich of Howell, MI, Matthew (Sarah) DeValk of Maryland, and Nathaniel (Jennifer) DeValk of North Carolina. Very proud and loving grandfather of Tristen, Tyler, Samantha, Joseph, Sarah, Arabella, Tatianna, Logan and Gideon. Also survived by his siblings: Gary (Linda) DeValk of Michigan, Ronald (Carrie) DeValk of Minnesota, Glen (Cindy) DeValk of Michigan and Scot (Cathy) DeValk of Iowa. Wayne attended the First United Methodist Church, 400 E. Grand River Ave., Brighton, MI 48116 where a memorial service celebrating his life will be held Thursday, September 19, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to First Steps Preschool, c/o the First United Methodist Church, Brighton.
