William Daley Obituary

William Walsh Daley
William Walsh (Bill, WW) Daley, a Trumbull, CT, resident since 1970, went to meet his maker on May 28, 2021. The beloved husband of Barbara McIntosh Daley for more than 60 years, Bill was born in Middletown, CT, on February 25, 1937. Son of the late Edward Joseph and Claire Walsh Daley, Bill would often remark about how grateful he was to have been born when he was and where he was - in the USA - to two such wonderful parents. He also felt blessed to have met and married Barbara and to have had three such wonderful children with her, all under the care and protection of a loving and merciful God. He leaves, in addition to Barbara, sons Christopher Michael and his wife Denise of Fairfield, CT; Timothy Edward and his wife Jenny of Easton, CT; and his favorite and only daughter, Mary Ellen of Black Rock, CT. He also leaves grandchildren Ryan William, Meghan Claire, Connor David, Emma Leigh and Cole William - all Daleys. He loved all of his children and grandchildren. He also loved his dogs Kelly, Molly and Nellie, as well as his Dodgers (who he saw play in 36 major league parks), Patriots, Bruins and Villanova basketball Wildcats. His Irish roots were also a passion, and he spent many hours researching them as a member of the Gaelic American Club genealogy group. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Joseph Daley, Jr., of Chatham, MA. He is survived by his brother Robert Frank Daley and wife Guyla in Blakely, GA, his sister-in-law Patricia in Chatham, and their families. Bill graduated from Woodrow Wilson High in Middletown, CT, as the valedictorian of his class and was an honors graduate of Wesleyan University, also in Middletown. While there, Bill was president of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was a 40+ year veteran of General Electric, where he attained executive positions in sales and marketing and also served as an officer (Lt.) in the US Coast Guard Reserve. Other accomplishments of which he was most proud - both during his work years and in retirement - were his activities with children as a coach and umpire for Little League, coach for Babe Ruth baseball, fundraiser for the Trumbull Youth Hockey program, and co-founder of the Trumbull High School varsity hockey program. He also volunteered with Literacy Volunteers of America, served as a mentor and reader at the Multicultural Magnet School in Bridgeport, CT, and was a board member of the School Volunteers Association. In this latter role, Bill pioneered a very successful pre-K to grade 2 tutoring program at the Geraldine Johnson School in Bridgeport, and later served on their School Governance Council. Bill was a communicant of Christ the King (RC) parish in Trumbull and served at various times on the parish council as a lector and as head of lectors. Bill also served as treasurer of the alumni association of his fraternity, which kept him in touch with today's undergraduates. He was recognized for his service to the DKE alumni organization in 2013, being named a Rampant Lion. Bill and Barbara traveled the world, and his favorite destination was Chatham, MA. Bill will be remembered for his quick wit, endearing sense of humor, and creative wordsmithery. Whether on a phone call or in person, Bill never missed the opportunity to tell those closest to him that he loved them, always ending with "Love to All." A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, June 3, 2021, at 10:30 a.m., meeting directly in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Ave., Trumbull, CT 06611. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. In lieu of flowers, please donate to either Christ the King or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org. on his behalf. Very sad to hear of Bill´s passing. We were colleagues at GE (GE Supply) in the 80´s and 90´s. He was a role model for many of us. His enthusiasm, energy and wit were contagious. I enjoyed working with him very much.

So sad to read this. Bill was my godfather, and had been very good friends with my father. They were classmates at Wesleyan and both presidents of Delta Kappa Epsilon. The last time I spoke with Bill, was to tell him of my father's death in 2019.

It's the end of an era. My condolences to all of the family.

My best,
Peter Stein

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I have fond memories of Bill and our conversations of Wesleyan and Dodgers baseball.

“May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
