William Sherriff Obituary

William E. Sherriff
William E. Sherriff (Bill) of Beaufort, NC, age 73, passed away peacefully in his home on July 22, 2018. Bill is survived by his two children, William E. Sherriff, Jr and his wife Dawn of Fairfield, CT and Christine R. Proulx and her husband Matt of Fairfield, CT. Bill loved and enjoyed his 6 grandchildren, Hannah, Grace and Megan Sherriff and Emily, Matt, and Molly Proulx.
Bill was born July 26, 1944 in Norwalk, CT. He was the eldest of three children born to William and Helen Sherriff. He is survived by his brother Andrew and his wife Angela of Weston, and Ellen Hooper and her husband James of Loveland, OH. Bill is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors all along the east coast.
Bill had a long and successful career as a computer programmer for Norden, Sikorsky, and IBM. Like many people in this line of work, Bill was at the forefront of the computer revolution. He witnessed, first hand, the evolution of the computer as a complex machine that occupied an entire room to a device that we all carry around in our back pocket. Bill fondly remembered his time with his co-workers and the friendships that developed.
Bill was an avid reader and was self taught on many of the pastimes and interests he pursued. To those who knew him, he was a sailor, boater, skier, gardener and all around do it yourself expert. He was constantly seeking out new adventures to challenge himself both physically and mentally. No project or task was too big for Bill to embrace. In fact, he seemed to relish and thrive on activities and projects that were deemed too big or too complicated to be done alone. He enjoyed the process of it all, almost as much as, if not more than, the end result. His vast library of knowledge will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Thank you for the care and compassion provided by his doctors, physical therapist and travelling nurse team. A special thank you to his primary caregivers, Cynthia, Christine, Heidi and the rest of the staff at Friendly Caregivers. They truly made Bill's last few weeks at home dignified, engaging, and comfortable.
A memorial service will be held at Our Lady of Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Road, Fairfield, CT at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 8, 2018. All family and friends are encouraged and welcome to attend.
