Winona Nettleton Obituary

NETTLETON Winona Rankin Nettleton, age 85, of Shelton, formerly of Stratford, widow of Samuel L. Nettleton, died Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Griffin Hospital, Derby. Born in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Nona Marsh Rankin. Having been educated at Bridgeport Hospital and Columbia University, she was a registered nurse with Bridgeport, Park City and several New York City Hospitals. She was a member of the First Congregational Church in Stratford for 60 years where she served on various boards and was supervisor of the Sunday School. She was the church historian for 15 years and served as deaconess. Winona was also a member of the Stratford Historical Society, the YMCA, Sterling House, the Old Timers Girl Scout Association and Co-President of the Connecticut Square Dance Club. Survivors include one son, David Nettleton, of Malvern, Pa.; and one daughter, Susan Ouellette, of Gardiner, Maine; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews; she is also survived by three sister-in-laws, Edith, Elizabeth and Ruth Nettleton of Guilford. She was predeceased by her sister, Jean Vanderkruilk. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, January 25, 2003, at 1 p.m., in the First Congregation Church of Stratford, with the Rev. Thomas Walter, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations, in her memory, may be made to the Griffin Hospital Development Fund, 130 Division Street, Derby, CT 06418. Arrangements in care of the Dennis & D7Arcy Funeral Home, 2611 Main Street, Stratford.
