Dorothy DuCharme Obituary

Dorothy G. DuCharme, 76, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born Saturday, April 26, 1930, in Providence, R.I., Mrs. DuCharme was the daughter of the late Albert L. Grinnell and Kathryn R. (Dundon) Grinnell and the widow of Joseph G. DuCharme, who died Aug. 25, 1994.

Dorothy graduated from Washington Irving High School in Tarrytown, N.Y., in 1949 and Westbrook Junior College in Maine, in 1951.

As a mother of four, she returned to Dickinson College to complete her bachelor's degree in history, graduating in 1970.

Dorothy and her husband Joseph, a coach of various sports, were loyal members of the Dickinson College community for decades. Dorothy retired from the Dickinson College chemistry department in 1987.

She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Carlisle for more than 50 years, and a life member of the Mary Dickinson Club. During recent years she enjoyed exercising at the Kline Center and attending lunches with her retired Dickinson College friends.

She is survived by her loving family, which includes her sons, James W. (and his wife Linda) DuCharme of Waterbury, Vt., Michael J. (and his wife, Bonne)DuCharme of Enola; her daughters, Kathryn DuCharme (and her husband, Daniel) Poling of Fairfax Station, Va., and Karen DuCharme (and her husband, Scott) Liard of Stafford, Va.; a granddaughter, Georgia DuCharme; seven grandsons, Jonathan and Eric Liard, Paul and Matthew Poling and Joseph, Michael and Thomas DuCharme; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 87 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, with the Rev. William C. Forrey officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's New Catholic Cemetery, North Middleton Township. A visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle.

Memorial contributions can be made to a Mass in her honor or to the American Lung Association.
