Elizabeth Keltner "Bettie" "Meme" Salter, 92, died Friday, Dec. 8, 2006, at the Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chambersburg.
Born June 1, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry "Harry" and Florence (Graham) Keltner.
She graduated from Carlisle High School, Class of 1932, and married Alvin B. "Pappy" Salter on June 12, 1937.
Elizabeth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Chambersburg.
She worked in public relations at Wilson College and was executive secretary to the administrator at the Chambersburg Hospital. She was also the first purchasing agent at the Chambersburg Hospital, from which she retired in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin B. "Pappy" Salter, who died in June of 2004, and her stepfather, Ralph E. Evans in 1957.
She is survived by two sons, Edward A. Salter of Harrisburg (and his companion, Trudy Capazo of Harrisburg, and former wife, Rose Marie Salter of Camp Hill) and Charles K. Salter (husband of the Rev. Dr. Dianne) of Chambersburg; a nephew, Robert Salter of Arizona; two nieces, Harriet Friedlander of Evanston, Ill., and Susie Treon of Pittsburgh; two granddaughters, Margaret Salter (wife of Brooke Rhodes) of New Cumberland and Elizabeth Stahl (wife of Craig) of Fayetteville; three grandsons, Lt. Col. David E. Salter (husband of Charlene D.) of Springfield, Va., Roderick Salter (husband of Tammy) of Chambersburg and Dr. Ridgley Salter (husband of Karen) of York; seven great-granddaughters, Meghan R. Morrison, Alyssa J. and Brooke D. Rhodes, all of New Cumberland, Margot and Sydney Salter, both of Springfield, Va., Abbigail Salter of Chambersburg and Emily Salter of York; six great-grandsons, Andrew J. Morrison of New Cumberland, Jacob Salter of Chambersburg, Nicholas and Alexander Salter, both of York, and Jackson and Bradley Stahl, both of Fayetteville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, in the First United Methodist Church, Chambersburg, with a visitation one hour prior to the services. The Rev. Dr. Dianne Salter and the Rev. John Dromazos will officiate. Burial will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
