Glenn Wetzel Obituary

Glenn L. Wetzel

April 15, 1926 - December 29, 2025

Glenn L. Wetzel, known to many as "Pap", unexpectedly passed into eternity at his home on Monday, December 29th. Glenn was born on April 15, 1926, to the late Aletha (Karns) Wetzel and David Clair Wetzel and was the oldest of seven children.

Glenn was a hard worker. He worked as a machinist/mechanic for Carlisle Auto Parts for over 40 years. He was dedicated to his family, always tending to their needs before his own. He enjoyed "jeeping" in his '47 Willy's in the mountains, snowmobiling, and day trips to Perry, Juniata, Mifflin and Snyder counties of which there were many.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944 at the age of 18, shipped out on Christmas Day, and fought in the European campaign where the "Battle of the Bulge" had just ended. He saw combat from the beginning. He served as a Corporal with the 2nd Armored Division "Hell on Wheels" as a gunner/infantryman on a halftrack in the Ardennes Forest. He was MIA for a time and ended up in German Stalag #2 in Neubrandendburg, Germany north of Berlin.

After returning from the war, he married Doris J. Kell, became the father of four children, and lived a very active life right up until the very end. He was blessed to have spent time over the Christmas holiday with all of his family.

Glenn is survived by his children, Lillie Foster, Roy Wetzel, John (Shelley) Wetzel all of Carlisle, and Susan (Roger) Russell of Newville; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Wetzel and one sister, Margie Haas.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife Doris in 2021, two brothers, Robert and Marlin, and two sisters, Jean Finkenbinder and Dorothy Lamason.

A viewing will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 p.m. in the Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, 630 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Richard Reese officiating. Burial will be private at LeTort Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Cumberland County Honor Guard. Visit www.EwingBrothers.com to send condolences.
