Jack L. Nickey, 74, formerly of Bonnybrook Road, died Friday, July 10, 2009 at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
Born Dec. 16, 1934, in Carlilse, he was a son of the late William J. II and Esther Myra Prosser Shank Nickey and the widower of Shirley Runk Nickey.
He retired after 30 years of service for the Pennsylvania Turnpike as a toll booth operator. Jack was a U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1299, Carlisle; the VFW Posts No. 7343, Mt. Holly Springs, No. 477, Carlisle, and No. 8851, Boiling Springs; the Moose Lodge 761, Carlisle; White Circle Club, Carlisle; Elks BPO Lodge No. 578, Carlisle; the American Legion Post No. 101, Carlisle; and the AMVETS, Carlisle.
Surviving is one son, Brian K. Nickey (and companion, Theresa Martin) of Shippensburg; two daughters, Traci Nickey Bates (and husband, Joe) of Hendersonville, N.C., and Kimberly Nickey (and husband, Barry Myrick) of Newville; one brother, William S. Nickey III of Mechanicsburg; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, David L. Nickey.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, with Rev. Dale Barrick officiating. Burial will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, with full military honors. A viewing will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
